Depends of the game, for example in Heroes 6 you have the Dynasty weapons, in Anno you have the Ark upgrade that is only enabled if you are always online, etc... the are lot of "debates" among players whenever or not those features are fully optional or negatively impact the solo experience, but in the end if you really want the "full" experience even in single player you need to be online.

Now that is highly not true of course.



And the blame is on Piracy publishers say, hell they cannot even trust steams DRM for safety.

If you get it on Steam it will make you connect into a cut down version of UPlay to activate the game the first time you run it, then after that you can play it offline.

I am getting the retail version of it which makes you register key with UPlay on installation but after that you can run the game offline once activated / installed. Start UPlay, go offline and then just play. The UPlay client is quite nice, I have HAWX 2, Driver San Fran and From Dust on there. When my internet has dropped out for whatever reason there is a bar across the top of the screen saying you are offline but you can still play your games without issues.

Steam is essentially a double whammy with it, UPlay is by far the lesser of 2 evils if you absolutely don't want the Steam version.

Thanks, guys. That sounds... well, to someone who buys games on Steam that can only be reasonable, can't it? But that does mean that the game is subject to the same policy as Steamworks games of 'wait until it's cheaper'.

Yeah, I'd much rather that achievements were disabled than they implement the kind of save-game-destroying policy that GFWL does.

I love the people screaming about how this game isn't on the UK Steam store because they "don't want to use Uplay." You'll be using Uplay either way geniuses, Steam just adds more DRM on top of it.

You have to make one if you don't have one already, yes. Have you played an Ubisoft game since Assassin's Creed 2? If so you have one already.

I don't have Assassin's Creed 2 on PC, heck I never had a good PC when it released.

Anyway if you have to make a Uplay account it will take like 5 seconds. Pretty standard stuff. I know some people hate using different clients and accounts though, so your mileage may vary. Personally I like the idea of each big publisher having their own thing, it allows me to support them directly and prevents having all my eggs in one basket should an account closure occur.

Does the uPlay thingy still keep local and online saves separately, effectively forcing you to play online if you wish to load your cloud saves?

Well, duh! If they allowed you to put local saves into the cloud, everyone would cheat the achievement system and thus devalue it. It'd be the end of the world.

Its fine, I have played Driver San Fran both online and offline with the UPlay client and my saves were accessible in both modes. It saves data locally and next time when you go online it will do a sync

I think I'll just play the waiting game and get it here instead, even if it takes a few years to be released DRM free.

All these hoops you have to jump through just to play the singleplayer story just aren't worth it to me.

Would be nice to know when Ubi-soft will be releasing more games here in the near future, Like AC2 and such.
