Because if it has something like SecuROM or Always online etc. well the thing is I never experianced these kind of DRMs, and not want to, but I really want to get Far Cry 3 on Steam.

Suggestions?

Elmofongo: snip
Steam=DRM
It requires UPlay, just as the retail version does, and also has Steam's CEG DRM, as Licurg implied. So basically you have double-whammy DRM. Either get it retail or from Gamersgate is my recommendation.

Do not, repeat DO NOT buy it from the UPlay store.

There's so much positive vibe around this game it even got me interested. Will revisit when the game come's down in price so not to get swept in I think :)

Is that U-Play the always online DRM thing?
"Always-on UbiDRM is gone, of course, but you do have to activate the game through Uplay the first time you play the game, and you need to use Uplay to launch it, even if you are launching it in offline mode. Offline mode basically reduces you to just the story option, snipping co-op and multiplayer options out of the main game menu. Cloud saving and achievements vanish, too."

It used to be, but Ubisoft eventually had a flash of common sense. Now it just operates in the same way as Steam.

As it's a Ubi game it will most probably have uPlay in it. The big questions is will uPlay registration be mandatory to play the game and what kind of "community" features will requires you to be always online. (Ubi having moved from "always online to play the game" to "you can play offline but if you do some 'community' features will be disabled", with the "optionality" of those always online features varying from games to games)

I dom't have an account in Gamer's Gate and not planing to and I only want to play Far Cry 3 for Single-Player so is it ok I get it on Steam?

You still have to go through UPlay to activate it whether you want to play single-player or multiplayer. Opening the game through Steam just opens UPlay, which is needed to activate and run the game.

In other words, wherever you buy it from and however you play it, you'll be dealing with UPlay and going through the UPlay Launcher.

The advantage of buying retail, mind you, is that once you've installed the game once from disc, you can then use the UPlay client to download the game thereafter. I'm not sure if the Gamersgate version works in the same way, but this approach doesn't work with Steam.

Meaning there's an offline mode?

It has an offline mode, but depending of the game, some features will be disabled if you play offline. (And I am not talking about multiplayer or achievement-like features, but also single player features)

Once activated, yeah. And it can be just as patchy and unreliable as Steam's offline mode.

What retsuseiba quoted above pretty much hits the nail on the head. Offline mode disables multiplayer, cloud saving and co.op, although there's nothing unrealistic or untoward about deactivation of these features in offline mode.

Huh? Which ones? My understanding was that achievements, cloud saves, multiplayer and co-op get deactivated, which is nothing unusual for an offline mode.

In HoMM6, they disabled the ability to choose your hero in custom singleplayer games. The offline save system was messed up (oh, you went online to play a multiplayer match? well, you lose all your offline campaign progress. have fun.). You couldn't pick up some artifacts in the campaign. Some singleplayer quests were apparently online only. etc.
I'd expect it isn't much better in that one. Probably something like "well, duh, of course you need to be online to reload an AK in singleplayer, it's a multiplayer feature".

Hmm... that sucks.

In any case, I'll be buying it on PS3, so this doesn't really concern me. This is the sort of shit that's basically killed PC gaming for me.
