I have the 3DS as well as 3DSXL, and definitely prefer the later.

While a glaring omission, the lacking of a 2nd analogue stick is not enough for me to totally dismiss the platform.

The battery life is inadequate, I don't care about the 3D gimmick whatsoever and all the best games are 1st party (nothing new for Nintendo there..) but otherwise I'm relatively happy with it.

I find it hard to justify buying Nintendo games however, as they are always so damn expensive. GoG has spoiled me, I guess :)

How long does the battery last without the 3D effect ?

niniendowarrior: 3DS XL comes with its own circle pad pro. It's a clunky solution and I'm hoping for another revision that includes all of these.
?

I never saw it listed on the back of the box or listed in product descriptions

this is kind of my only hangup about buying an XL for starters, not getting a circle pad pro XL.

orcishgamer: My daughter has one of the originals. The XL looks nice, but lack of games combined with uncertainty about there ever being a second analog stick keeps me from buying one myself. The only reason I have at this point is my DS Lites don't support WPA2 WiFi encryption, so Pokemon games are a lot harder to enjoy.
avatar
SirPrimalform: The 3DS doesn't add WPA2 support to DS games anyway.
No, but games that have it can then use it, for example, all the Gen V Pokemon games support it.

The XL is reputed to have at least 50% longer battery life.

My daughter's original is still better than my old ass DS Lite. Though that's because the Li batteries wear down and lose capacity over time and my Lite has less than half its original capacity.

Oh yeah, but that's because they're technically DSi games. Might you be able to pick up a DSi second hand nowadays?

I know, but the DSi pissed me off by being less functional than my DS Lite (save for the WPA2 thing), including region locking, iirc, and some other annoying shit.
I might get 3DS XL to play my DS games (I don't have any DS) and to play Rune Factory 4 if it comes out in North America. Hopefully if and when Rune Factory 4 does come out there will be more colour choices available for 3DS XL...

Fair enough. I didn't bother with the DSi for the same reasons.

Luisfius: Actually, I think the revision is bigger, 3ds extra large, haha. I have a first gen 3ds. Honestly, I am waiting for Etrian Odyssey 4 to be released so I finally get something besides the bundled Zelda 64
avatar
N0x0ss: The Etrian Odyssey on the DS bored me near death.
Finished it, but it was so damned flawed and repetitive.
Which one did you try, 1 2 or 3? I've played all 3, and 3 is by far the best. Of the throwback Wizardry Japanese dungeon crawlers (PSN available Wizardry, Dark Spire, Etrtians and Strange Journey) I liked EO3 the best. Then again, not everyone's cup of tea, I know.

I am pretty sure it exists. Maybe it's only in Japan or something.
Apparently it will be released out of Japan in the future. Or come bundled with a game that uses it.

I agree - I would like the 3DSXL for the larger screen - wireless connection - and "some" 3DS Games (That I would probably never play in 3D anyway). My only problem is I hate to trade in my DS Lite (See Pic) as its a special Pokemon Edition - Paying full price for the 3DSXL is out.

I would never trade in my DSlite anyway, it's the last thing to play GBA games. I can say I'm very happy with my 3DS though.

Oh they're making one, but it definitely doesn't come with the system here or in the US. I don't think it comes with the system in Japan normally either, but perhaps they're doing a "3DSXL + Circle Pad Pro + Game that uses it" bundle or something in Japan.

You can actually get an emulator and play them on the PSP :-) or the GC has a base that allows for it - but I agree, I still play the GBA cartriges on the DSLite.
My first gen fat DS is still running strong. Battery is quite a bit weaker than before but still great.

Then again I did have to replace the upper shell once
