The backlog... THE BACKLOG OF DOOM!!! Can't... sleep... must... play... Death from above!!! For great justice!!!
It is the question how to define "too many".
I have 69 (no dirty associations please ;) ) on GOG and looks like it's too many in my case (at this moment).
about 30% of the games I finished
about 30% of my games tried but didn't enjoyed
rest is for games which I purchased (e.g. because of big discount) but never played because of lack of time
So if I think about those 40% which I never tried I think that in my current situation I have too many games.

Impaler26: I have way too many games:

1,451 on Steam
894 on Desura
378 on GOG

And some more on GamersGate, DotEmu, FireFlower Games and other stores.

I'm drowning in games... But i still need more! :D
You're a monster. O_o

ofcourse
I have 600+ games in various services and retail boxes but there's plenty more of games out there I'd want to get. Some of those I'm never going to play and only own them because they were part of bundles or sales and it was cheaper to buy than only ones I wanted. I also own 100+ codes I am not really interested in redeeming or are dublicates of games I already own.

So yes and no. Bigger problem is I'm never going to have enough time to play them all. :-/

Dzsono: Too many. I've been using HowLongToBeat to roughly figure out how long it would take to complete my backlog. It's not good news, I'm afraid. And my collection is very conservative compared to those above me :\

Fenixp: Well, to be fair I don't aim to beat vast majority of the games that I purchase.
That's an attitude that I'm desperately trying to adopt! In fact, you've inspired me; I'm going to delete two installed games when I get home because they've been sitting there unfinished and unplayed for months. The thought of continued play seems like a chore, so I'm going to liberate myself! Thanks, fenixp!

Yes, you especially, lol :D

My backlog is probably 1/6 the size of yours, but it's full of RPGs, games with high replayability, and games with lots of collectables and secrets (which I despise, but try to complete anyway!).

For your sake, I hope most of your games are short indie titles that can be finished in an afternoon :)
One can never own too many games!

Magmarock: Do any of you guys think "You know I may have over done it.
It's not exactly that I have too many games as that I play them too little. :)

But yes, I think so. If I had fewer games, I would probably have played them more. Having a lot of games makes it harder to choose one and easier to stop playing at the slightest discomfort.

I have no idea how many games I have, because most of them are in the form of Steam/Desura (and occasionally other) keys which I never redeem. I tried to convince myself not to buy more games, but it's hard when there are pretty decent games for under a dollar.
It's awesome to own so many games, because it comes with great freedom of choice. That being said, as we all know, freedom and choice are both a blessing and a curse, because they can be quite intimidating if you let them. I definitely own more games than I need, and I definitely spent too much money on them and wish I could give some of them away again, and sometimes I'm overwhelmed with the temptation to play everything I'm interested in at the same time, but on the other hand I really enjoy trying out games and picking from a large collection, and even though I don't like all the games I own, it was still interesting to see what they're like and form an opinion about them, and even though I won't play through every single game that I do find worthy of notice to some extent, it's still nice to know that I could pick any of them whenever I wanted to.

Not too many games at the moment for me. Ive played consoles since NES and just started my second stint at PC gaming (Used to game during the Microprose/LucasArts/id era). I unfortunately have sold all my old console systems and games in various garage sells growing up through the years (kick myself for that). And I definitely still dont have any of my old PC games.

So I just got a laptop and just got into this whole GOG/Steam thing. Ive picked up a couple from GOG and Civ 5 and Path of Exile from Steam. Plus I picked up the Sega Humble for Nights and the Kart racer. Either way I should be set until the winter sales. Even though I have the latest generation of consoles, I am absolutely loving the prices of PC digital download v.s. console game prices.
I should emphasize that I only meant GOG games. I don't even want to go in to total because last time it was close to 1K

I think this is a conundrum. No point in owning more games than you have time to play unless owning them is more important than playing them.
