soulgrindr: the censorship of school textbooks isn't really down to shame, it's mostly down to attempts by nationalists.
the whole political/cultural situation here is way too complex to fully understand. On the one hand there is some guilt from previous actions (where the japanese were much worse than the nazis), on the other hand they were the victims of the two nuclear bombs, which had a major impact on their psyches, but also they've done a pretty good job moving on from the war, but also they've done that in many ways by forgetting, but the massive upheaval in culture after the war has also left many young japanese rather without a place in the world. etc.. etc.. etc.. It all ends in a big mess i guess.
But other than the small groups of nutty nationalists, i don't see many young japanese being intrigued or corrupted by the works of hitler.
I also don't see them worrying about ethnic sensitivities in europe. Ethnic sensitivities aren't a big point in japan.

Right, can of worms. I don't mean to sound overly critical of Japan because it does have some wonderful policies and people. Basically, I think this book is tasteless and I am not interested in reading it. I would not make light of the destruction at Hiroshima and Nagasaki because that just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe some German publisher will.

Just a side note: I was not talking about the crap, camp BR movies.
I was talking about the manga - the first series takes a very realistic art-style, but the second takes a cutesy cartoon style version, which turned me off, but none the less, the content is similar.
Oh well.

Until it inspires a death toll over 10 million, I still will not consider it a relevant comparison.

Catshade: Hmm... I remember that Nazi uniforms are one of the most popular cosplay costume in Japan and Korea...

michaelleung: Yes, and Max Mosley is known to be a fan.

I'd first like to point out that Max Mosley got compensation for that since there was no Nazi content to his S&M sessions... secondly though, his dad was a proper facist..
I have no particular love or hate for Max Mosley though, but detest the way the News Group newspapers (The Sun, News of the World, Rupert Murdoch) do business and "journalism".
Thankfully Max Mosley will soon no longer be president of the FIA, and therefore F1's name will hopefully be less tarnished by his presence... lots of people seem to hate him a lot...
Anyway... I seem to have gone off on a tangent.
Has anyone played "Time Gentlemen, Please!" by Zombie Cow? they have a minature hitler as their general bad guy, and use his presence/actions for great comedic effect.
See also... some fantastic Youtube videos using "Downfall" as it's clip: Hitler learns that the avatar trailer sucks

You're starting to sound very narrow-minded.
Have you ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK?
Of course it isn't. Demonizing Hitler for his eventual acts is like considering Chris Benoit a terrible wrestler because of how his life ended.
ALL actions undertaken by humans can only be judged in their own time of reference. We do not discount Galileo, even though most of his "discoveries" were false.
Hitler actually had a lot of innovative methods of governing...and as people say, he made sure the trains ran on time. Nationalism-based politics are hardly anything new, if anything, they are the most natural politics. Hitler's choice of where to steer said politics is/was horrible, but that hardly takes away from anything he did BEFORE, or one could argue, AFTER it.
Stigmatizing is a dangerous behavior, which almost simplifies a man down to his public "lowest common denominator", and no one with anything resembling an intellect should resort to it.

All those spelling mistakes hurt my mind.
Anyway, kinda makes sense I guess, people keep saying how bad this man is while forgetting the good things he did, like... uh... um... well.... the good things.
The "good" things he did:
Made cars better.
Was one of if not the most charismatic leader in history.
Taught us all to understand how this could happen in modern day times.
Gave us all a big fucking wake up call.
That's what I can come up with off the top of my head.

The VW Beetle and the Autobahn. That's about it for the good.

There were exactly four spelling mistakes in that post.
