GOG is still the store I like and prefer but it does feel like it falls behind.
1. Game selection
I'm aware that my view is probably a bit crooked because GOG has released a lot of games I'm not fond of or they don't see interesting to me (be the culpit a genre or whatever) in 2013. On the other hand, they seem to be actively reluctant to release some new games that have been DRM-free for long time and received relatively warm welcome just because it doesn't go well with unspecified criteria.
When even the behemonth of game distribution gives a greenlight to something unique and niche while GOG is busy releasing Daikatana, I admit I feel disappointed. Release schedule of "The underdog of game distributors" gives me an impression that they need to wait for reactions of other fishes in the pond.
2. GOG itself
Linux. My biggest issue right now. When GOG made their big Mac reveal, it was already old news for all other distributors. It's normal to get installers if a developer bothered to make one; not for GOG.
Forum. No improvements. It uses the bare construct for years. For example, subforums dedicated to games decay slowly because newbie's question doesn't have any chance to get spotted by other people than a fanatical follower or bored person checking the section on whim.
Website features. Spams in reviews are many years old and pile up and nothing has been done with them. GOGmixes are impossible to find or manage easily. And so on.
I can't shake the feeling that management decided that "who doesn't try doesn't spoil anything" strategy is the best option.

I don't know where the release rate is failing - be it in the unwillingness of publishers to release DRM-free or in the revenue share that GOG offers...
Yeah, this. GOG might play it safe too much lately for my liking however I can't really point out the finger. Either way, it wouldn't hurt to see improvements at least in aspects that are in hands of this company.
