Potzato: If you never heard of Dune (the boardgame of course) it's one of the 2 games I know that is really complex without letting luck have much place in it (the other being 'Full Metal Planet'). Making games without dice rolls is an amazing feature in my opinion.

I should go dig more info on the web...
I never heard of them, sadly. And european games are more popular, well... in Europe. Although the biggest hits make it to the states as well.

by the way, it's pretty funny video from table top, while they play The Resistance :P

Potzato: I was watching Tabltop the other day ...and was wondering : 'Damn I'd love to watch 6 of these people playing Dune' .... and then reality poked his finger inmy consciousness : Do non-french speaking people have any form of access to Descartes/Asmodée boardgames ? (Dune, Maharadjah, Black Beard ...)
Can't speak for the other two, but I own an English copy of Dune. I'm pretty sure I've come across the name "Asmodée" in other contexts, though.

Sadly, I've never managed to get Dune on the table - it's hard to find the right combination of people who A) have heard of Dune (and thus would have any desire to play it), and B) are sufficiently skilled gamers that it wouldn't scare them off.

Some day... some day.

If I remember correctly, it was the second time in my life I wanted to be a ginger .... hum, I mean red haired

Gathering 6 wannabe muad'did with time on their hand simultaneously is no easy feat nowadays, I can relate. Then you have to learn/play with standard rules, then with additionnal rules, then with optionnal rules (or not) ....
This is the thing I really regret I can't do anymore.

You are definitely the embodiment of the (revisited) saying : 'A good picture is worth thousand words explanations'.

Sidenote : I can't possibly make the same mistake again ^^
A few different things to cover!

Dune is a legendary board game not likely to ever see a reprint again. Fantasy Flight actually ended up with the rights to the game mechanics, but the Herbert family lives in a bizarro universe where they believe movie studios are lining up to hand them millions for the Dune rights. So they refused to license the game. As a result, Fantasy Flight had to re-brand the game in to something they controlled, putting out Rex within their own Twilight Imperium universe : http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/104363/rex-final-days-of-an-empire

Asmodee is a fairly large global board game publisher these days.

Finally, the Kotaku piece was written by Quintin Smith. He's an ex Rock Paper Shotgun writer who does a great job of talking up board games and RPG's with a few others on this site : http://susd.pretend-money.com/ They're weird and quite entertaining. I'd recommend starting at the beginning and working your way forward. :)

'nuff said. (..though i do prefer it vs RL opponent).

I didn't know freaking Wil Wheaton has a geek show and an entire board games section! It's freaking amazing.
Yeah, I love this show, I just started watching it off and on, and I find it highly entertaining, and a good way to see what a game has to offer before you buy it! Recommend others check it out too. :)

EDIT: RPG'ers watch the Munchkin Episode, if you have RPG friends, I'm sure you would love playing that game.

Let me know how it is. I've considered picking it up.

As for me, a copy of Space Hulk third Edition will be in my grasp tomorrow evening. I'm trading a few other games to another local with a copy to spare. So I'm quite happy at the moment. :)

We played this before at a board games shop, so I can tell you how it's like.

It's pretty good, if you like random chance based games and dice rolling. Because the game is pretty much entirely based on dice rolling. It recycles the same artwork from other Arkham Horror games, but that's not a problem for me, because I don't have any of them (yet :P)

It's a pretty good game for that price, and you get a lot of cardboard :P There's gonna be an expansion soon that's gonna fix some of it's flaws (will tune up the difficulty, for example).
Last tabletop game I played was a russian version of Monopoly. When I was about 10 years old.

I wish I'd play some D&D games, as I never did so far. Wouldn't have with whom though.
I remember a surprisingly decent board game was the Buffy: the Vampire Slayer game. Been years now since I played it, but it was simple enough to learn relatively quickly, but had that right amount of strategy and tactics to make it interesting.

I also agree Bang! is an awesome game. I recall playing it when the expansion was in playtesting.

Not really D&D game, but I couldn't recommend Descent enough. If you have kids, you should buy it. They will freaking, frakking love the game.

and so will you!
