Hi there fellow gamers.
I am wondering if any of you fine people have a Wii? Is it worth "investing" in?
The choice of games isnt exactly my kind of thing, but I am intrigued by the fact that you can play gamecube games on it and also the availability of the old classics.
My question is: Do the people who own it regret buying it?
If you all you want is Gamecube games and old classics, why don't you just get a Gamecube off eBay for half the price or something and get old emulators for the classics?
Well, as of late, there's that game Deadly Creatures, and there's the new Tenchu, so maybe it's starting to get games that aren't simply shovelware with Mad World coming out as well (Deadly Creatures looks awesome by the way). I should note that I don't have a Wii, but my friend has it and we've played a lot of it.

Maybe he wants to go with a more legal way other than emulators.

I already have a Gamecube and I am not interested in playing emulators.
The Wii is supposedly a casual gaming machine with games not made for "proper" gamers. I guess those who have this use it with friends and such. Its not really made for the solo player in mind?
I guess I am trying to find reasons not to buy this thing. I have a sad tendency to buy every console of every generation. So far Ive stayed away from the PS3 and the Wii.
After 8 months of having one i can be of help here.
The Wii is more of a party console, it gives something to do when you got people coming over and the drinks start passing around. I'd say its exclusively aimed towards that niche, since its games are neither complicated or require great reflexes and/or m4d skillz.
Even the only decent shooter (Metroid Prime 3) is kind of a platform game in first person, it even plays like the old ones! :D
However, after this 8 months of use I'm selling it since i'm not using it frequently and I need to save some money. Playing solo just doesnt cut it. The thing i'm trying to tell is that in all the console and gaming things i've got, the wii is the first one that comes to mind when thinking about selling some of it.
So, to sum things up, buy it only if you intend to have people coming over and playing it at least twice a week, any less than that and your interest will quickly fade :-P
Hope this helps!
It has a great list of games, if they are the kind of games you want to play. They might be, they might not.
Metroid 3. (plus the other ones if the wiimakes get released in your country, plus pikmin, mario tennis, etc.. remakes)
Wii Sports
RE Umbrella Chronicles
RE4 remake
House of the Dead Overkill
Mario Galaxy
Smash Bros
Mario Kart
Zelda Twilight Princess
Okami remake
Zak & Wiki
Super Paper Mario
Boom Blox
No More Heroes
Call of Duty: Waw
Warioware
de Blob
Trauma Center
Rayman's raving rabbids
Fire Emblem
Batallion wars 2
Elebits
Sam & Max
SSX Blur
Deadly Creatures
plus a couple of great wiiware games:
World of goo (if you don't have the pc version)
Lost Winds
Orbient
Strongbad (eps 1+)
I'd say all those are pretty good games... though a few are available on other platforms, and not all may be everyone's cup of tea. Of course there's also Wii Fit and Guitar Hero/Rock Band if you don't have those...

So, you said all that to say, "Only if you have friends."
I regret buying mine. I've hardly used it. I guess this is partly because of my genre preferences, but there's just very little out for the Wii that I'm even remotely tempted by.

yeah, but i also like to give my reasons for saying that :-)
an argumented opinion you could say, right?
Well I mainly got my Wii as it's smaller than the GC and allows for the virtual console. The only real Wii games I've played are the Wii Zelda and the follow on game from GiFTPiA, Captain Rainbow. I consider it money well spent so far.
I want a Wii, I think that a Wii, PC, PS2, and a DS would be a good selection of systems to have.

Don't tell me you bought an Eks Bawx over the PS3. I was tempted by the initial appeal of the 360 but hearing all the crap about it (i.e. the noise, the unreliability, paying for XBL, etc) the PS3 is starting to look a lot better.
Also, I think you already know that you don't want a Wii. So why buy it? My parents have a Wii but so far they've only been playing Wii Sports. As others have already said, it's not really about the games themselves, it's more about the experience you have with other people while playing.
But on the other hand, it's comparatively cheap and it has some interesting innovations so if I had some extra cash to burn, I'd buy it.
Hi guys,
Thanks for replies.
fuNGoo: You have it nailed. I dont really want a Wii. I was just wondering if I was missing out on something and I am obviously not. And yes, I bought a 360 over the PS3. I have never had any problems with it. It runs like a champ. And Ive had it since August 2006. I dont regret it for one second. However I use the PS2 more than the 360 and I use the PC more than the PS2..
I guess I`ll head over to ebay and get me some cheap games for the ps2 instead :)
Thanks for your replies :)
i got a wii, the only games i have ever played on it and would consider playing again was either wii sports which comes with the game, or Pokemon Puzzle League, which is a virtual console title.

But of course, your kids play the Wii more than you do.
