No, I always pay for a game what I consider the "right price". With GOGs it is usually the $6 or $10 asked for it.

With newer games it depends. For ME 3 $80 was right. For Obsidian 165$ was right. For Modern Warfare 2 5$ was right.

I buy games on sale I have no real interest in and just to "fill up the backlog". Especially on GOG.

As long as I don't have a permanent job I'm limiting myself almost completely to sales, there are a few exceptions though. For example I bought Cannon Fodder at full price because it hasn't been on sale a single time since I've joined GOG (I believe) and really wanted to play it at some point. I've also bought a few other games at full price because I "needed" them (I will leave it to your imagination what "needing a game" means).

Not only applicable to GOG:

90% of the time yes, only from sales promos. I haven't seen a game in years that would make me feel "OMG! I must instantly drop everything else I'm doing (and playing) right now, and get that one game and start playing it!". I already have a backlog of interesting games lasting longer than the rest of my life probably, knowing how slowly I advance in games anyway (have been playing Baldur's Gate for over a decade I think, hello?)

There certainly are lots of interesting games in my mental wishlist, and I mostly think "Sounds great. I'm looking forward to play this game in n years, when they finally release a GOTY version at an acceptable price.". Mass Effect 1-3, Dragon Age games, Spec Ops: The Line etc. etc. etc.

The only exceptions for years have been:

- Games where I feel I want to support the developer/publisher/GOG (Witcher 1-2, Penumbra series & Amnesia, Minecraft etc.) more than the average. But usually I don't feel I specifically need to give extra support to certain developer, as if he is more worthy than others making great games. Like this recent Divine Divinity series PWYW promo: I personally don't see why I should pay extra for the developer, as if they are more worthy in my eyes than many other developers/publishers.

- When there is a chance some interesting games might disappear "for good", if I don't get them now for the default price. Like the few Codemasters games I recently bought from GOG. This applies only to DRM-free games, I see no reason whatsoever to buy DRM'ified games "to save them from perishing". After all, they might perish later from my backlog anyway, due to their umbilical DRM-cord.

Here on GOG, it really depends on the game. I'd happily pay twice the asking price for things like LBA, so there's no reason to wait for a promo. But there are lots of games I just have a passing interest in, and those are better suited to $2–3 (like XIII I bought the other day).

Outside GOG, whatever I feel is right. But as a rule, I wouldn't spend more than about $30 on a single game.

Unless you feel particular about getting the games on GOG waiting for a sale on the D&D titles doesn't just mean waiting for GOG to do it again since you can get them from other retailers as well. Particularly the D&D Master edition on Gamersgate. The normal price of that thing is already about the price all the games would cost here when they are on sale, on sale that thing is an orgasm of value for money ($6.xx for BG1+2/IWD1+2/Planescape Torment + TOEE), and the best thing is that they are the same updated/enhanced versions of the game you'd get from GOG. (there's still remnants of the GOG version in the installers)

As for waiting for sales, it really depends. I got XCOM and Orcs Must Die 2 on release with no regrets whatsoever. Games on GOG I tend to keep on a waiting list since 9 times out of 10 I already owned them at some point. Did recently get King of Dragon pass full price though, no regrets there either ^^

Steam = 99.9% of the time unless i find a 25 or 30% off voucher for a steam game off GMG i fancy

But that's recent. :) I think the last time that happened to me was either when Thief came out, or Final Fantasy 7-8 PC versions, whichever came out first. And even with Thief, I had just enough self-control to wait until Thief Gold came out, which then I got for a (semi-)full price, I think.

Frankly, FF7-8 maybe drop more into the "extra support" category. Ie. I bought them on release for full price partly because I kinda wanted to prove to Eidos/Square that they did the right thing in porting the games to PC. Not only because I felt I want to play them instantly.

That didn't seem to help that much though, FF9 was console-exclusive once again, in spite of of my full support. End of innocence for me, back to buying games from sales and bargain bins.

In my entire life,I bought maybe 15 games at full price.
IE on Steam I taken only 8 games for full price (but it wasn't really full price,because preorder has discount.I bought Alan Wake Collector for 21 euro,American Nightmare with 25% discount,Basement Collection with 30% discount,Home with 10% discount...but they were "day one" titles),all other games were taken at 75% discount or from bundle.

Now that you mention it - actually none of the games I mentioned were "OMG" titles... as a matter of fact I bought them out of desperation because there was nothing exciting going on in the video game industry. My last OMG year was 2007 and even that one was disappointing... God, I wish to live in the late 90's or early 2000's again... o_o

I bought Legend of Grimrock and Botanicula at pre-order. I also instabuy games I'm waiting to be released on GOG. I buy the rest on promo sales (like games I might be interested in, but I'm not waiting for them to be released on GOG).

90% of the time, yes. 2 reasons:

1. I bought Trine on day 1 for 30 EUR, a month later it was already 20 EUR, so I kind of felt WTF!.
2. Steam sales - during the first sale, I only bought the Orange Box and Half-Life anthology. First I played through, the second one was mostly for the collection. Through the year I bought games on deals I wanted to play (Ninja Reflex, played a lot of it), previously pirated games (Wolf pack) and then another Christmas sale came. I bough more games I could play :S All of a sudden I had more games I could realistically play and finish in a year. So it became kind of silly to buy a new game, when I have a backlog. But I just keep on adding games on that list ....

Same here. With Steam and GOG combined I have more games than there's days in a year. So even assuming that I beat one game a day (which is impossible) I'd be busy for a whole year... not to mention all the big RPGs that I could keep playing for months. Sales are pure insanity...
