Sogi-Ya: wow, 4 pages on someone saying something stupid about an awesome game.
avatar
Nirth: Seriously? I don't know why I bother but it's his opinion. There's no "fact" that it is an awesome game or not.

Personally, I thought it was ok, quite predictible and mediocre but nothing more than that.
predictability ... it's a god damned kerpoldy shooty shooter.

you get points for kicking people in the ass ... and bonus points if they land on a cactus.

WTF does it being predictable have to do with anything? and how the hell do you predict the part where you start shooting people with a giant remote controlled tyrannosaurs rex?

it is stupid fun, and that makes it awesome ...

I loved that bit. :3

hay now; you better stop following me or I'll kill your dick!

Crassmaster: And the difference is, I believe you because you don't have massive consistency/credibility problems. I can't say the same for RYG.
avatar
doccarnby: You know, I've only vaguely heard about RYG, they're an anti-DRM site, right? What'd they do to fuck their credibility?
Heh, pretty much everything. I'm not going to be pretend I'm unbiased, because I was involved with them for a time, but...yeah. To this day, I still don't think they have a clue what their message or their point of existence is. And their 'official opinion' seems to swing around as thought the slightest breeze is changing it.

Remember that Spore nonsense about SecuROM? RYG was one of the places claiming at that time that you couldn't fully uninstall SecuROM and that it wouldn't allow certain applications to run (such as Process Monitor). Those claims were proven to be false.

In all fairness though, the DRM situation surrounding Spore was completely fucked up. For instance, I bought the Galactic Edition on release day, only to find out that EA had forgotten to add the CD keys from the Galactic Edition to the activation servers.

SimonG: Bulletstorm is an awesome game, go buy it now!
I read somewhere that it's 100% better than DNF, is there any truth to it or is it pure spindoctoring?

It depends (this is coming from someone who liked DNF). DNF is more "grounded" than Bulletstorm. Bulletstorm is all about shit flying everywhere and you're kicking things in the face into cactuses and shit. DNF is slower, more Half-Life. They both feel like games from the '90's, DNF because it is a game from the '90's, and Bulletstorm because it feels like a remake of a shitty, obscure FPS that set its sights too high back in '96 and was brought down by the technology of the age. Basically, Bulletstorm feels like it's sci-fi Painkiller (not much of a surprise), except with a filthier mouth. DNF feels like Duke aping Half-Life (again, not much of a surprise), but it's not bad, really. Just not the greatness it should have been after 14 years.

It was the most fun I had in a shooter in a long time.

The comparison to Painkiller is off, as Bulletstorm (if played for highscores, which you should) plays like an action puzzler more than a shooter.
So I redeemed the Amazon code on Origin and installed the game. The game does work but oh my fucking god it was a pain to get it working. GFWL is complete bullshit!

After pressing Play I got the window in the attachment. And that's it, nothing happened. Took me about an hour of headaches of messing with GFWL until I finally got the brilliant idea that something might be hidden off-window (no, I could not resize) and just pressed Enter on a hunch.

Finally the game launched but could not find any option for offline profile. Had to use an online one. Unfortunately I already had one. I say unfortunately because it would have been easier if I'd just created a new one (won't go into details on that). Funny thing, at one point, after updating GFWL, it asked me to restart the game to finish the update. I say funny because if you're not logged in into the updated client you don't get to see the menu and Quit the damned game like it asks you. Alf+F4 just pops-up GFWL. Anyway, killed it from Task Manager, it finished the update, started the game automatically, I logged in and finally got to play.

Pirating is a lot easier. A thing I will definitely remember when I'll see the next game with GFWL.

Use an offline profile. After all it is not a rocket science.

Aningan: snip
When I bought the game a year ago I installed it and played it without any issues. Started the game, GfWL came up, clicked OK on my existing account, entered serial, game started.

YMMV

Gamersgate version. I didn't even try to play online, because my PC is always online.

So you played with an existing Online profile. I see that always online is not a problem for you. But it is for us Simon.

My experience is the same with Aningana and with the same as the link that i posted(though it is old).

A lot of people here run to denial, not believe you even if you posted links, even if you had the experience told in the post that night, even another person posts the same experience. Closing their ears to your words and instead of believing what did you said they could even think you lack knowledge, common sense and intelligence to do a simple thing like making a local profile. Even you say times and times again.

Wow. Amazing!
