Outlast: Whistleblower DLC, an expansion to the original tale of horror that expands upon the beginning and stretches beyond the first game, is now available on GOG.com for just $8.99. The original game Outlast" is required to play and is now available for $6.79 (a 66% discount) until 10:59 AM GMT on 11 May 2014.

In Outlast we learned that the remote, snow-capped mountains of Colorado are more than just a tourist attraction for skiers. Terrible secrets lurk in a long-abandoned home for the mentally ill. The Murkoff Corporation, operating under the guise of "research and charity", has been carrying out top secret experiments in the asylum so horrifying that even H.P. Lovecraft's hair would go white with shock.

Outlast: Whistleblower DLC is an expansion to a first-person perspective horror game Outlast, where you play as Waylon Park, the software engineer that emailed journalists around the world about the Mount Massive Asylum. Because you aren't a fighter, you'll need to run or hide from the deranged patients and even madder scientists. Use your skills in both parkour and stealth to survive the horror that is terrifyingly real as Outlast is inspired by real asylums and cases of criminal insanity.

You can't hide forever from the horror within the Mount Massive Asylum. Run, don't walk, and pick up Outlast: Whistleblower DLC for only $8.99--DRM Free--on GOG.com!

Silverhawk170485: How is this game ment to be played? I mean the DLC adds something upon the beginning of the original game and stretches beyond the original game. So should I play the DLC first to see what happened before the main game to some point, continue with the original game and finish the rest of the DLC after that? Or will the DLC be integrated in the original game so that you play through the whole story in the right order by simply starting Whistleblower?

nightrunner227: No, play the base game first. The dlc immediately spoils the ending of the base game, and while the ending to Outlast wasn't good, it would still imo ruin the experience.
Thanks.
For those who hesitate, first magazine review:

Solid 8/10.
There was one thing I had to cut from my review (which is now up on gog) due to the character limit. It's not a huge issue, as it pretty much only affects the beginning of the game. But when you encounter two NPCs at the start of the game who engage in a dialogue, they will loop that dialogue over and over again. Nothing game-breaking, but it's certainly detracting and feels very silly (and therefore totally out of place for "Outlast").
Quick question. How long is the actual base game itself out of interest?

Somewhere around six hours, if I remember correctly.

At the currect price, I guess it's fair to say you're paying $1 per hour of gameplay.

JudasIscariot: Oh, I see :) Well, in any case, it's nice to see someone get all excited about a release :)
Better yet: someone getting excited about a DLC-release! ;)

I'll be honest, back when we first started carrying DLCs, I never thought I'd see anyone get excited about one :)

Well this looks like it has the content amount of a "traditional" expansion pack, which is the good kind of DLC.

RPGelephant: I'm the least manly of the two. You be the judge.

JMich: Beards are (by definition) manly. If you don't believe me, ask any of your co-workers, like TET or G-Doc. So I think that's settled ;)
I'm convinced. I wonder what style of beard would go best with my lipstick. A chinstrap perhaps?

May I suggest something like this?
Really scary? Like Amnesia?
