During the winter holidays, a German steam user asked to trade Divinity II for 2 games I had bought prior to the sales. Since I really wanted that game, I agreed. The guy forgot (I shall give him the benefit of the doubt) to mention that his version of the game was the (DE) version. I checked but couldn't find anything online that indicated the game is censored, however I was told that the game is only available in German and cannot be changed. Is this true or can I change the game's language to English?

Can't you "check store page" and look at the provided languages. And I also couldn't find anything on censorship.

Edit: The german store page says "Diese Version beinhaltet nur die Deutsche Sprache" (this version only has german language" in a big red box on the front page. So looks like you are out of luck.

You could also ask on the Steam forums..

Go to Larian's site and put your question to them, on most games there's a way to change regionalisation.

Yeah, the makers. http://www.larian.com/forums/
I don't get why so many games are Deutsch only... It is so annoying... This is the 21st century...

It was a lot worse in the '90s. Piracy wasn't only the only option to get a game uncensored, but also in english. It still sucks though, that's also why I don't bother with german retail anymore. At leas with Steamworks games you are supposed to change the language. Why you can't switch in DD II is beyond me.

I agree. there should be an option to change the language, unless language is not the only restriction in the game...?

I was thinking more along the lines of asking the community.. it's usually done via a hack. you know like changing some files around.. there may not be an option in game.

Should have made that clearer, sorry. :/

oh... right. didn't think of that. community seems small over there though... entire forum has 3 pages.

Steam /et al.) is also using "language restrictions" as another way to enforce regional pricing. Eg. Modern Warfare 3 can be bought rather cheap in Russia, but will be russian only. While I can understand that they don't want to have russian keys being sold to german and US customers ( If we are honest, our average income is a tad bit higher), this really sucks for people in Russia who want to use other languages.

However, this will hardly be the case with DD II, because the euro I region is the most expensive by far ...

They're a good bunch though, and pretty loyal and helpful, even though, imo their last two games, including this one, don't even shine a light on Divine Divinity.

Indeed and not only that but also on steam there is the issue of 1€ = 1$, which makes games much more expensive for European customers

well the common trend for games lately is pump good graphics and viola! a new game! whatever happened to deep and intriguing story line? Whatever happened to complex plots, captivating quests and actual role playing?
