IM looking to pick this up... i liked the way the demo felt and im hearing good things about the game but there is the Ego Draconis and The Dragon Knight Saga versions...

the first is a retail cd and the second is download only... i was wondering how intrusive the drm is on the download and where a good spot to get it from would be... or is it best to just get the original Ego Draconis disk and enjoy that?
I've got Ego Draconis and although I haven't completed it yet it has been very good so far. No significant DRM problems either.

There is supposed to be a patch for ED that adds the improvements Dragon Knight brought with it. But I haven't heard anything about that in a while now.

I'd also like to know if you can / will be able to get Dragon Knight for retail versions of Ego Draconis or whether we're basically just required to re-buy the game.

If you buy a physical disk then you have to buy the full ego and DKS

Well that sucks. I guess I'll have to wait for a sale then.
Ego draconis is a good game, it is much much harder than DKS. I really had to try hard at ED, DKS was in some ways nicer as there was less reloading, but in other ways it was a bit tedious.

As Navagon mentioned, there is talk of them doing a patch so that you can turn a copy of Ego Draconis with Flames of Vengeance installed, into DKS. The last I can see of this being mentioned by Larian was a forum post mid January, however they have confirmed that they are doing it. For the PC only though.

I don't know about the UK/US, but for some time you can get the DK Saga here for 2700 HUF, which is ~$13.5, thus budget category. Heck, I think it's even cheaper than ED itself was when it was available.
Ego Draconis is very good for the first half of the game, but sadly it steadily gets worse in the 2nd half with all the dragon form stuff. The last 1/4th of the game was most disappointing imo, except for the ending itself, which I enjoyed.
It's not bad. It felt almost like a waste of time in the end. I'm still flip-flopping on how I feel about that. Almost everything about it was uninspired, everything felt second-rate. The gameplay, IMO, felt like a single-player version of World of Warcraft which really hurt the experience.

I actually liked the expansion a bit more in the end. More polish, more detail.
I really loved DKS. Didn't beat it but got pretty far. The DRM they've said will be removed eventually as always.

Note they added a Nightmare difficulty afterward.

I Loved DKS. It's got some old school sensibilities hidden under the flashy modern exterior. It also has some nice humorous touches, which I personally feel make a nice change from the current 'gritty realism' trend.

I agree with others that expansion was better than the main game.

Here DKS is £30 pretty much everywhere it's available, which isn't many places to be honest.

Second that.

The maingame starts good, somehow lost me on my first approach after getting the dragon tower, and blew my off almost completely with the grindfest that followed. The ending was a pleasant surprise again.

However the expansion plays A LOT different. Everything is much tighter put together, the devs really let loose on quest/story design with a wicked grin on their face while doing so. Where the maingame started good, I thought the beginning of the expansion was absolutely fantastic. If I had to make a choice, I'd prefer the expansion over the maingame anytime.

They released it a while ago already.

Good game... not great, a little too confined and bland, but good game.

Do you have a link? I had a pretty good look through the larian site, couldn't find it. It will probably be in the last place I didn't look.

Yeah, I can't find it either.
