I've never had so much fun doing nothing in a game. Everything is automated except diplomacy when I play. Finally a strategy game that make me feel like a ruler. :)
Distant Worlds is a realtime 4X space game characterised by extreme complexity that can be ignored because you can set pretty much everything to be automated.
Oh and in my second game I'm almost getting defeated by pirates. :D
30 quid is a bit much for me to take a gamble on especially as I have a lot of games of this type.
I have been waiting for this title to drop in price and then I will gladly pick it up.
In the interim, I purchased Armada 2526 on sale at GG.
Thanks for the reminder though! :o)

Yeah it's a bit expensive but for me it was worth it.

You're welcome. :)
The game haven't got much attention so I thought I'd make a thread about it.

Any tips on other realtime grand scale strategy games where you can set most features on automate? Games where you actually play as a ruler and not some sort of god is very rare.

Imperium Galactica 2 lets you automate a lot of things IIRC. Space combat, ground combat and planet building can be automated at any rate. And it's a fantastic 4X game. At least, I've had a lot of fun with it.

This is a title I am dearly waiting for GOG to get. I hope they get the UK version though as it had a color manual.

Sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip. :)
I managed to get a big nice and dominant empire going and had grand plans for total domination. Alas it was all a delusion because the dreaded Evil Empire syndrome hit me with a nasty twist.
Suddenly everyone got jealous of my "Colossal power and strength", started to hate me and of course declared war.
Fine. No problem. I'll crush them easily.
Not. For reasons I don't fully understand yet my overpowering empire got hit by a civil war a couple minutes after the war declarations and about 1/3 of my colonies rebelled and went to war with me.
I can deal with that. Most of my troops and ships are still loyal. Die rebel scum!
Well I didn't have time to kill them because after yet another couple minutes another civil war hit me that left me with only 1/3 of my original colonies. Time to start a new game and figure out what I did wrong...
Helloz,

The game is on sale at the moment, and i was thinking about getting it. However, i was hoping some of you guys could answer a few questions for me? I've been looking around for info on the game, and while i could download and play the demo I'd rather just ask:

Do you BUILD colonies in this game? Like in GC2 and GalCiv? Buildings and expansions on the planet surface etc.?

I've read that the diplomacy is/was somewhat buggy. Is it still buggy?

I've bought "Star Ruler" and "Sword of the stars" and both were very dissapointing to me. I LOVE GC2, Moo2 and GalCiv, but realized that what i really like is colonizing. Setting up the colonies, building structures, upgrading etc. Slow and easy. Designing ships and going to war never really pushed my buttons. Is "Distant Worlds" the game for me?

Please help.

http://matrixgames.com/news/854/Christmas.comes.early.for.strategy.gamers!

Not a HUGE discount, but I've just gotten my paycheck. :D
I think I'm going to grab it and the first expansion...and a couple other things. :) Ah, the start to the Christmas wallet devastation.
This year I finally bought MoO 1+2 on GOG, got SotS, Star Ruler, unearthed my copy of Remember Tomorrow and discovered Aurora. I'll skip this one and better buy Panzer Corps.
Well, as nobody had any thought on regarding my questions i went ahead and bought it. AND the expansions. So i guess I'll find out for myself. If anybody has questions regarding the game I'll be happy to share my thoughts in a couple of days. :)
