I think the fact that a lot of players seem to be spending several hours on it and describing it as boring is one reason. The mechanics aren't bad, they're the only saving grace the game has actually. For a story with such potential to end up boring like it is is not only a tragedy it's nigh on a clusterfuck. I mean, how do you manage to make a steampunk revenge story boring?
I can't give a fuck about anyone I've met so far, I've felt more empathy for the old, salty whaler guy from a couple of the books that you find than I have for anyone in that story. It's hard to even care about the little girl, at most you spent maybe 5 minutes with her and they failed to convey much of a sense of loss about the whole thing.
For how open they try and make the levels the story is linear and by the numbers crap. Seriously, story-wise this is the equivalent of Twilight fanfic by an average 13 year old girl.

The AI also sucks. I just walked into a dog kennel where a guard was feeding his dog, i shot the dog, then the guard proceeded to LOOK FOR ME. After that i teleported behind him and completely left him alone looking for me. I then went on to kill the rest of the guards in the kennel. I just shot his dog right in front of him and FIVE Feet away from behind a few boxes and all he did was go to look for me. By the way, when i say i teleported behind him, i mean i jumped up onto the boxes i was hiding behind and teleported behind him, all this going on in front of him. The AI takes too long to detect you and you need to be too close for automatic detection.jefequeso

Big_McLargeHuge: LOL. I watched that like 3 times. That has to rank up there with the weirdest glitches/bugs i've ever seen in a game. user deleted

Not that part, the part where a guard just randomly kicks a maid. I have yet to see that in the game haha.

I take back what I said about the simple stealth system. Shit turns out to be more complex than I imagine. There's definitely light involved. In the High Overseer assassination, the guard could see me across the courtyard when I was standing in light. The fact that one of the loading screens also says "Shadows affect enemies' ability to see you, but only at a distance" or something like that confirms it.
