I hate police dramas for the most part. The laziest damn storytelling you can find just about anywhere within the last couple of decades, at least on television.

And now we're getting the Watch, overseen by the hatted one himself, although with his illness I wonder how much of a role he's really going to take in it all. But I'd love to see how this works out, but so far trying to adapt just about anything from the Discworld to the screen has been a great deal less than stellar.
The adaptation for Hogfather wasn't bad.

But the Colour of Magic was awful. Mainly because of David Jason.

Anyway, this seems a bad idea...

My expectations are very low. ;p
I honestly wished they did this as an animated series. Quality fantasy is easy to do with Photoshop, or whatever they use for painting frames nowadays.

Going Postal was also kind of a mess, but it was better than Colour of Magic.
Probably because I played Discworld games before reading the books but when reading the books if I had an image of characters they would always be cartoons. Tried watching some of the Discworld live action movies and they just aren't as fun with real people as cartoons or words. Also, very hard to understand the movies, without subtitles for me and a LOT Is lost without Prachett's narration and footnotes.

But still I can imagine a Watch Tv show being very good if done right...
I'll be watching this... somehow, somewhen.

I agree with that. It should have been Eric Idle as he voiced Rincewind in the games and I find it hard to imagine anyone else. David Jason just seemed too squat and elderly for Rincewind, plus he'd already played Albert in The Hog Father.
I liked Hogfather and Going Postal. The only thing that worries me is the CGI/suit for Detritus. The Golems worked for Going Postal because they are just animated clay, Troll's however are a different thing entirely.
Another reason to go animated.

The biggest drawback is that the stigma of animated shows being for children only are pretty overpowering, even with shows like The Simpsons and....The Simpsons. And Avatar: The Last Airbender. And Cowboy Bebop.
I'm curious, but I feel like there's only a very tiny chance of it working.

All depends on the cast. Vimes, Carrot, Colon and Nobby need to be perfect or it's going to fail. They can build the rest of the cast around them but those 4 have to be spot on. My gut says Phillip Glenister for Vimes but I think he's too big a star for it.
My only real question is ... why? Why bother to limit the stellar charcters of the Watch series to some hour-long bastardisation of the books, acted by the usual suspects. I mean, is it really so difficult for people to pick up a book these days that everything has to be turned into a TV series?

I can also see this being critically panned because many of the viewing public being confused by the farcical nature of some of Pratchett's humour. Works amazingly on paper, probably not so well on screen.

And Angua. And Vetinari. And Detritus.

And for the love of everything that's worth caring about in life, don't make it the emotionless, monotonous, droning, horrible, horrible tone all these other stupid crime dramas are going for.
