I can't watch violent/gory movies and TV shows. I can't watch horror movies. I can't even handle Itchy & Scratchy.

Yet I had no problem mowing down gnaars and zorgs with my chainsaw in Serious Sam HD. O_o

I have never been shocked by any violence in games, other than in manhunt when you can use a severed head to beat someone to death with. I felt that was a bit over the top. Plus there was talk of a wii version at the time, which would seem wrong to me, using motion controls to murder people.

Most movies have worse violence, just look at the saw series.

I love gory to the max movies and games and a lot of folks think that makes me a walking contradiction because I can't honestly imagine I'd be capable of harming anyone in real life even if it meant defending myself. I have no idea what point that statement serves but it's one of the reason I don't equate violent media (music, movies, games) with violent behavior. The more twisted sick disgusting immoral reprehensible and all together nasty a game or movie is, the more I love it. Alas I refuse to kill anything living save for house flies. My nephew on the other hand, while only ten, has never been allowed near anything pertaining to violence (not even Road Runner cartoons) and yet he is a little sociopath. Hope my brother doesn't read this.

In closing, I like sick and reprehensible movies so much, I once actually watched Hudson Hawk. Well most of it. I'm not that twisted.

I think the problem with all of this is guns in general. 500 years ago if one man tried to go on a killing rampage with a sword, he might kill 2 people who are innocent before being bum rushed and executed. Now in this day and age, one asshole can wipe out 30 people without breaking a sweat. Crossbows used to be considered overpowered, you can imagine how crazy guns are compared to it.

I don't believe that I will ever use a gun because if I had a problem, I'd solve it with my fists regardless of the size of the person.

Video game violence lacks realism. Movies get closer. But the unceremonious aspect of real violence, like say what Liveleak has...that'll make your stomach turn.

Games look so unrealistic it doesn't bother me in the least. Even in 20 years graphics will still look so not real I won't care, kind of like CGI.

The only horror images that bother are realistic practical effects like horror movies had in the late 80's and 90's.

Eager to bum rush a trained swordsman, huh? Yeah... about that: Swords are deadly weapons. Really. Video games and movies downplay the fact, but think about your guts spilling out onto the floor, a missing limb, or more of your blood outside your body than inside, etc. Now you could argue that the crowd rushing our rampaging swordsman would be armed as well, but then the obvious counterpoint would be that a gunman can be just as "easily" stopped by other citizens wielding firearms. :-P

I'm a gorehound. Got a stomach of steel and a bit desensitized, the perfect combination. Well, I guess my dark sense of humor also helps...
