It's been an amazing year for gaming. So it's probably no great surprise that my biggest disappointment that I've played this year was actually released last year.

Yeah, sure I didn't expect much from Battlefield 3, but bloody hell is it a shambles. So much for it being developed for the PC first and foremost. It's the biggest botch job I've ever seen and I've seen some really fucking bad ports. You even need to load a bloody web page to start the game. Unbelievable.

Looks very nice on Ultra though.

Sachys: Deus Ex Human Revolution - a BRILLIANT GAME!

...UTTERLY F*@CK#D UP by constant savegame corruption - putting me off starting AGAIN!

- doubly so as the update log on steam states that problem is fixed!

StingingVelvet: Weird, played the game from beginning to end 4 times and never had that problem.

Anyway...

Max Payne 3 I guess? I didn't play a lot of games this year because I was away from my gaming PC, but I bought MP3 for close to full price and then played very little of it because I found it cumbersome and annoying.

Looking forward to giving it a second try though.
You just have to disable steam layout or whatever its called and game sync so that all your saves are on your HD. Never had a problem.
Lets see:
-KotOR 2: Game was good for 3 hours until I quit out of the game for a break and tried loading a save only to get a crash on the load screen about a dozen times. Thats a quick way to kill any interest I had in the game after spending an hour applying fan fixes.

-XCOM Pack: Holy crap did these games age bad, and the whole being bad at strategy games thing doesn't help either.

-Avernum: Escape From the Pit - This would have been a good game if it wasn't filled to the brim with trash encounters and had some of the C&C that made Geneforge so good.

I actually liked all the AAA purchases I did this year and thought it was a really good year on the whole.
For me the winner is the utter fail of the decade diablo 3, i was stupid enough to buy the collectors edition...Torchlight 2 is the successor to diablo 2, diablo 3 is yet another actizzard money make for wide audiences (target audience being teenage boys - no offense to teenage boys).

Diablo 3 has absolutely nothing good other than the awsome art style (excluding character models which suck totally). One thing I don't regret is the collectors edition Box which is a work of art, even the feel of the box when you slide your hand over it owns, also the art book is great along with decard cain journal is an awsome artifact, game itself utter crap, even after months of patches still useless, economy is a joke, bots, cheats is yet another joke.

Roman5: 2012 overall was underwhelming for me in general overall, might as well rename it to "Year of the Backlog"

SimonG: Is that some pathetic attempt to sound edgy? Dishonored, Spec Ops, Far Cry 3, Mark of the Ninja, AC III, ME 3, X-Com, The Walking Dead, Shogun 2 FotS, Crusader Kings II, Primoria, FTL, Grimrock, Black Ops 2, SR III etc pp

Not to mention the incredibly good deals ranging from the THQ bundle to Amazon competing with the Steam sales.
ಠ_ಠ Underwhelming for him. It's just an opinion.
Gettysburg Armored Warfare
I paid full price for that over the M&B Napoleonic Wars DLC because of the premise and promises of patches
about 2 weeks after I bought developer announces it's dead and not being patched further
It's Paradox. They drop unsuccessful games pretty quickly.

tomimt: If you thought the game play would have been anything but a throwback on old Dungeon Master style, you really have no one else to blame but yourself.
avatar
Cormoran: LOL yeah I found that reasoning very odd too, the throwback to old 80's dungeon crawlers is the exact reason grimrock even exists.
I didn't play those in the 80's, I was too young. I tried it out with Grimrock, and I didn't care for it. It is advertised as "updated" at least graphically, so I thought it looked interesting. Don't tell me I have "no one to blame but myself" for trying something new to me and not liking it.

Not just Paradox, unfortunately.

Y'know... at first I had a hard time thinking of games to mention here.... then I remembered Assassin's Creed 3 & just got pissed off all over again. While not a HORRIBLE game, it really failed to live up to what I was hoping it would be. Connor is so damn BORING & just about every line he spoke just about put me to sleep. One thing that really bothered me about him was the complete lack of emotion he showed throughout the game.... he just never really seemed to give a damn about anything (such as SPOILER: When Achilles died... I mean he was the closest thing to a real father that he had, *sure Haythem was his biological father, but the man tried to fucking murder him for christsake* & he didn't seem to even remotely care about it END SPOILER:). The story was also really lacking if you ask me... I can barely remember anything that happened minus the Tea Party (SPOILER:& that was largely due to the stupid ending scene where he could have clearly killed 2 key templars, but instead decided to drop a tea crate into the ocean END SPOILER:), the opening scene with Haythem, the aforementioned Achilles scene, Connor's (admittedly pretty cool) ending & the Desmond Scenes. That being said... lets talk a bit about Desmond's ending. I won't spoil it... but it is it legit the worst ending that I have ever seen in my entire life. I may be in the minority, but I loved Desmond as a character & to see his story end in such a way really pissed me off. I know you are probably thinking that I hate it for what happened to him, but that is not even remotely the case... it is not so much what happened as it is how it was presented. What happens just happens & the camera doesn't even focus on him while it happens... This is the main character of your fucking series, show him at least a semblance of respect & allow there to be at least a little bit of emotion in such a scene. I mean, Damn....

Oh... & I forgot to mention that this is the ONLY game that I have ever bought at a full $60 in my ENTIRE LIFE. I was so confident that I was going to love this game that I actually pre-ordered it (the second game that I have actually pre-ordered, OoT 3d *which was only $40* being the other) & man... what a damn letdown.

SimonG: IF the new XBOX comes with a keyboard, Win 8 and office capabilities, then it could be very different however.
I literally laughed out loud there. Hell, they should release:

Xbox: Office Edition, do all your work at the office and then stay! Never see your wife and kids again! You'll be so anxious to get to work you'll never want to leave and it will only cost you a downpayment of $1000 and two souls. Pre-order now! Beat the rush!

We market this to Microsoft. Making millions. Split it 50/50 until I Oceans 11 you.

keeveek: Kickstarter, indie games glowing (I mean really good indie games, like FTL, Hotline Miami or Deponia),
avatar
Gersen: Daedalic might not be as big as Blizzard or EA but they are hardly an Indy developer.
WAT
Indie = a separate company, not a subsidiary of a holding; especially not owned by a publisher. So Daedalic, Larian, Bohemia, and Nival are all indies.

If you really were expecting third person gameplay, then yes, you are only one to blame, as nothing like that wasn't promised with the game. It's retro game with modern graphics and that was how it was sold.

Dude I bought GTX 560ti for my brothers new desktop for Battlefield 3 and it was running OK and the game was good, I mean how is it not a PC made game first and formost, what does make a PC dedicated game anyway?

Um, Skyrim. Yeah, I know, but I didn't get it until 2012.

Traded in some good games for it too, which I later regretted. The only reason I still have it is because I wouldn't get crap for it trading it in. It was just the plain old PS3 version, but now it's my "collector's edition" - it collects dust.
