dae6: Regardless of which director makes this film, I cannot imagine it will be anything but terrible. I played, and enjoyed, World of Warcraft for many years, but I have trouble seeing Warcraft games made into a decent film. I hope to be proven wrong, but am not particularly optimistic about the potential results.
Enough bones are there to the world to create a fairly epic tale. Seriously, the WOW writers were actually fucking awful, but there's enough "ideas" scattered all over that a half decent writer should be able to come up with a pretty decent screen play.
The movie might be doomed (no pun intended) by the genre. Prince of Persia was pretty good, Doom was not so good but it was fun, and pretty much everything else sucked the sweat off a dead man's balls.

I agree with orcish in that there is a lot to work with using WOW and they shouldn't have a problem with characters or story so long as, like he said, they get a halfway good writer.

What everyone has failed to mention if that even if it is total shit, there isn't one of us here that is NOT going to run out and see it! I live 50 miles from the nearest theatre and I've never even played WOW but you bet your ass I'll be waiting in line on day one.

I doubt they will leave enough creative freedom to allow anything good to come out. The concept that something simple can be awesome seems to completely elude them.

What can a writer do if there's pressure to be more "badass", to the point of ridicule?

I have no idea what that means, but it sounds negative to me.
if they just make the warcraft 3 story, with arthurn's fall and stuff with production quality of avengers then it will be a good movie, regardless will check the movie out for sure once it comes to dvd
Cool.

I wonder how many years Blizzard will sit on their arse this time before this director tells them to shove it.

That's what I thought. World of Warcraft is still Warcraft. It doesn't prevent good stories from being told. Hopefully it will be a decent movie. I'll be waiting to see how it ends up.
Inb4 Elenarie coming in saying that this will be the bestest movie evar!!1!

Elmofongo: I don't know why this movie is even being made, the Warcraft brand is not that popular, now its SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM!!!

Amazing that a reletively niche PC game became so Mainstream.
What is this I don't even

Wouldn't it be great if they cast Traci Lords as Jaina Proudmoore!
WOW! Sorry I couldn't resist that! hahahahahaha
OK, so we're taking a game..
where everyone makes their own characters..
and tells their own story, that just happens to link with the story of some notable NPCs.

.... and turning it in to a movie?

Yes, that's fucking brilliant.

doccarnby: I was super excited for a Raimi Warcraft movie, personally.
So that it becomes a childish fairy tale with poor actors as Spiderman trilogy was, no thanks. Duncan Jones will do better.

You've never seen Evil Dead 1 & 2 I presume. Yes the Spider-Man movies were silly but we must never forget the true Sam Raimi that gave us girls being violated by trees and severed hands try to kill their former owners.
Didn't we have a WoW movie called Avatar a few years back?

Robette: Again not Uwe Boll... ;_;

Peter Jackson did Braindead before LOTR.
Differnce between any Boll flick and Braindead is, that BRaindead is actually very well made movie, that just happens to have a lot of gore. Hell even Bad Taste showed much more talent than anything Boll has done.
