No fanfare on the website. Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 50% off but not much else. I took a spin over to GameFly to see what the PC games selection is like. Pathetic. More than half of the all games I purchased on Direct2Drive since early 2010 are not available there.

Very glad I downloaded all 74 games to my backup drive over the Christmas holiday.

RIP Direct2Drive
I only bought games, I was able to activate either on Steam or Origin. So no loss for me (okay, 1 title... but that one is Fort Zombie and that game sucks anyway *gg*)
Wait, what's going on?

edit: an found the news, never mind.

@Ubivis

I picked up a lot of these while I was on the fence about STEAM. Only after picking up my first game pn STEAM, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising did I get off the fence. I liked having multiple choices to buy from. GamersGate, GOG, Telltale, IndieBundle, STEAM, , BigFish Games, Direct2Drive. Nice options. Now GameFly has sucked up Direct2Drive and one less good option has disappeared for people.
Wow didnt think so many games would just disappear.

Another sad day for pc gamers. D2D may not have been the best but i had no problems with them.

Well that leaves GoG,Gamersgate & steam for purchases now for me.
according to them more direct2drive games are going to be added to that list though.

I'm not defending them... I'm just saying if some games are missing from that list, it doesn't mean they won't be back

Is Direct2Drive really finished, or is this just speculation? I know it's been dying a slow death for a while, but I can't find anything about GameFly actually erasing it.

the news floating around stated, that the D2D Service will be integrated into GameFly. So yes, D2D will not be with us anymore soon.
I notice there are some EA games on your list. Many EA CD keys can be attached to an Origin account. Once the game has been attached to your account you can download that game through the client and install patches and everything.

I'm not sure exactly what games are supported but it's definitely worth trying. If you already have an EA account that doubles as your Origin account.

EDIT: according to their support page some older EA games have to be activated at the EA Activate website instead of Origin itself, but after that they will show up in Origin. Weird.

Aww, that makes me very sad :( While I've never bought anything from d2d, I'll still miss it as a source of competition for steam.
You could see the change in Direct2Drive last year. During the Christmas holiday week they didn't even try to compete with GamersGate, Amazon or STEAM for customer sales. Now in 2010 they were just as aggressive as STEAM in July and December, slashing big game titles to 75% and more. That's is where the majority of my games came from, those crazy sales.

But 2011 after the announcement GameFly had acquired them, it became lackluster and the site just seemed "meh". Other than Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition, D2D's 2011 was pretty much uneventful sales discount wise.

I want to thank them for the free games they gave me at the close of 2010. So long Direct2Drive.
