Awesome :D
Time to beat it yet another time! (it never gets old :) )
Now that I play the HD version, I don't notice any difference from the old v1.08 version. I mean, yeah, the text is larger, the menu is different, and the music in Dink's house is different, but I don't notice overall improvement in graphic performance. Not enough to warrant an "HD" label. Maybe an "Enhanced" label, but not "HD".

I suppose you wouldn't be happy with Zork HD unless it had actual graphics either.

I didn't say I wasn't happy with it, I just meant that I think people are getting a little trigger-happy with their "HD" label-makers. I mean, "HD" means "Hi-Def", or High Definition, and should only be used to denote games that have had their graphics reworked to "High Definition" specs, as in anything 720p or greater. If the only new features are mp3 music replacing MIDI and upgrading from 8-bit to 16-bit sprites (example, a failed/cancelled fangame called Zelda 2 Enhanced, which offered SNES-grade sprites and tiles, and basic parallax scrolling, as opposed to the original NES sprites), then the proper label would be "Enhanced".

As for "Zork HD", I think calling a text adventure "HD" is purely for humour value. Kinda like if someone made "Minesweeper HD" or "Tic-Tac-Toe HD". Actually, I think there is a Minesweeper HD out there somewhere.

Wow, thanks for letting your fellow GOGers know. I remember playing this many years ago, but almost forgot about it. Seems like it's even tablet computer compatible now... ? I might give it another go.

There are some other interesting games at the site, too.

Duh, I didn't even notice this was an old thread. Guess I have to thank you for the "necro", because I wasn't aware of the enhanced version.

Hey guys i am super happy that there are so many dinkers here , i will be posting a list of DMODs to play for those who loved the main game.

In short , when dink smallwood became super popular back in 1998 the creator seth put out the game free into to the hands of dink network community where many people have created several mods for the game called Dmods. i have played almost all of the dmods on the site so i can recommend a few for players here however.

1)Dink hd uses a simple dmod adding technique where its in built into the game, if it shows up in the list you can download it directly in game or paste a url of the game for it to download.

2)The classic version uses old style where you download the mod and install it

both versions have their ups and downs
-hd has speedup , quick save , quick load, higher res support but incompatible with many dmods and bugs
-classic supports everything but lacks the quick save/load , speed up etc

My friends as a long lurker on the dink community i can honestly say sadly the game is dying out , no dmods have been released since almost two years , nor anyone is working on one .
will put a good list in the first post

updated first post with mods to play with

I remember really hating Dink Smallwood but spending so much time playing it. Don't remember why but I think it had something to do with combat or monsters.

If you don't like the combat, you can pretty easily over-power your Dink :)
