Estimating digital downloads’ true weight (translated from my original post in Italian)
Numbers go nuts, but I'd tend to trust Stardock's CEO word more than just market research data. Apart from that, my opinion is biased: I will always prefer physical goods on digital ones, at least for a good part of them.

Well of course he tells others he believes they're number two! It would be bad publicity to say "we're number three," and even trying to say they're number one would make them the laughing stock of the industry.

Number 3? He is lucky if he is even number 4.

The PSP Go isn't really relevant to this issue. The PSP Go didn't fail because of it being a dd only platform, it failed because of a major lack of game releases on the PSN, plus the PSP is an already established platform with millions of owners having collections of umd games to play on umd models.
Simply put, Sony chose the wrong way to go about introducing a pure dd system, and when they did introduce it they put almost no effort at all into having quality content available for it.

In the US, it's probably D2D (as more people over there are bound to have heard of and used the service (considering it's primarily aimed at them). ROW, It'll be GamersGate as they have a far larger catalog of games and less regional restrictions.
Either way, I expect it's a very small gap between them in both markets. Impulse, doesn't even register. They are tiny and whiny. And that's all.

If he thought he could get away with it, he'd claim to be number one. But if he did that, Valve would just laugh in his face =)
This reminds me, I made a comment on Twitter a while ago about how they could provide proof of their claims "that they are working with publishers to remove regional restrictions" by selling titles that are available worldwide on other services, to other regions than just NA on theirs. Not surprisingly, the only result I got was harassment from one of their staff and said staff "blocking" me on Twitter. Rather childish if you ask me.
And also a great way to guarantee that I will use their service as little as possible from here on. In fact, I've only bought two things from it all year: a heavily discounted game and discounted renewal for object dock.So if this is their strategy for gaining the number 1 spot. It's fucking brilliant!

People can complain about Steam fanboyz all they want (and validly so), but I have never seen Valve employees so consistently act as childish and petulant as the Stardock ones do in the face of criticism. I've seen kindergarten age children with better sense than some of those people.

That is so true. In fact, Valve's (non-support) staff are generally very well mannered. I'm known to criticize them rather harshly at times both via PM and openly on the forums. And have done so for a fair few years. I remember when Steam used to yield up some really really terrible download speeds (I used to get a max of 50 kb/s with a usual average of 4 kb/s). Naturally, I was very vocal on how shite that was. So much so that when they did whatever it is that they did to fix it, I posted a simple thanks on the forum.
Later, I get PMed by one of the Valve staff who thanked me for thanking them, particularly because I generally complain about what they do wrong. I really can't see Stardock ever doing anything like that, they simply don't "get it".
