Yeah, he's not possible to defeat in my game. He always triggers the block animation instead of hitting my rogue. I very rarely hit him but sometimes I can hit him 3 or 4 times with my hammer. I do 35-50 damage and have 200 health with 92 armor. 30% resistance to all elements. 100% chance to hit.

I honestly spent 2 hours fighting him and going back to level 15 with town portal.

In diablo 2 he was at least hard but able to beat. I enjoyed the rest of my experience with game so I got my money's worth. Maybe blizzard should make a repatch and make him possible to beat for MOST people.

I don't mean to start a fight here but I beat him and I am the poster child for sucking at games.

I never tried playing a melee rogue in the first game, but maybe that's the problem? That class was meant to be built around ranged physical combat + some magic.
Even then, the class meant for melee combat, the Warrior, still had the hardest time with Diablo anyway I think. It might be the fact that you're trying to do melee in the first place.

Granted, the fact that I'm even saying that does probably mean they could have balanced it better, but that said I think changing your tactics entirely might still help. I remember rogue (using a bow) was the easiest class for beating that game, at least for me.

I came in here to say this too - I played wizard (mage?) first go and had a horrible time beating him. TONS of kiting and running and popping potions and more running away ;) When I went through it the second time I used a bow wielding rogue and couldn't believe the difference - she shredded him!
Yeah, I tried way more than two hours, and tried different strategies, and never beat it either.

For awhile I even thought it was intentional as they intended you to go through the dungeon at least twice to get to an appropriate level to beat it. But then I realized when you started over you also started over back at level 1 and figured that was wrong.

I hate games like that. There are three games in my life that were over the top hard at the end, and when I say over the top hard I mean I put in literally dozens of hours JUST ON THE END GAME part between them and never even sniffed victory. Had I at least sniffed it a couple of times, I would've continued, but never even got close.

The three are:

Zelda 2 (NES)
Divine Divinity
Diablo 1

And reading from plenty of sources tells me the problem isn't just me, it's a widespread thing. The Divine Divinity forum basically has a whole set of threads just on this subject alone.

The game pretty much just sucks. I just read the diablo wiki and my stats and damage are right. They just said you need to have more armor. But how the fuck do I know that. Word to the wise, usually the best games are the ones that you can finish. So that means all the old games pretty much suck balls. Big balls with salty vinegar.

The bow and arrow doesn't do enough damage so in essence the rogue is supposed to be a decent fighter just not as good as the warrior. I spent 6 trips to level 15 and town portal and for what. I figured there would be a good strategic fight. There really is no strategy.

So diablo 1 sucks
Diablo 2 sucks
Diablo 3 likely sucks. The whole fucking series is one gigantic tom cruise abortion.

What? The mage was the best character in D1 for me (single player).
He always starts weak, but then becomes unstoppable!
I had more trouble with the warrior defeating Diablo.

About the melee rogue.. I didn't think that was even possible, knowing the attribute cap :O

All the old games suck big time. Maybe the developers of diablo 1 should make a game that is good. So far torchlight 1 sucked too. Torchlight 2 probably sucked. Fate sucked. So they are basically not even human beings. They are diablo the lord of terrible games. Muahhahahah I am satan, give me your Christians so I can baptize them with salty balls and sodomy.

Whoa now, I don't get how you go from a legitimate complaint about Diablo 1 to a broad brush swipe at all old games. I've beaten plenty of old games. In my example list, Zelda 2 is included, but I've beaten Zelda 1 and Zelda 3 multiple times. Diablo 2 is also fair at the end.

It's a specific game thing, not a time period thing.

But I agree with your premise, that alone can make a game suck. IMO Divine Divinity would easily be a top 10 all time game on my list were it not for the unfair ending.

And yes, it's unfair if you make legitimate choices in terms of character development throughout the game but your character can't beat the end boss. If there are variations that result in one not being able to finish the game, then a good game will either not include such variations OR give the player plenty of clues as to what direction to develop their character. I almost always play my first playthrough of an RPG as a warrior type player, yet many have indicated the game in question here (Diablo 1) is near impossible for that type of player. Then it shouldn't have been an option.

The only old game that is a little old that has been epic since day one is Baldurs gate 1 and 2. The rest are crap. This whole fucking site is a big joke.
