keeveek: You just need to grind more. That's entire secret of playing Diablo.
There's actually only ever so much grinding you can do in the original Diablo, you just kill everything in a level and ... That's it. Monsters never respawn. There is the trick with starting a new game with an existing character, but the game can be safely finished without doing that.

LaithArkham: I never tried playing a melee rogue in the first game, but maybe that's the problem? That class was meant to be built around ranged physical combat + some magic.
Even then, the class meant for melee combat, the Warrior, still had the hardest time with Diablo anyway I think. It might be the fact that you're trying to do melee in the first place.
This.

Even if I have not finished the game, my longest run was with the warrior. It was easy at first, but when more powerful foes began to appear, I quit. On the other hand, the rogue (the character I played most) even if had a harder time at first (the Butcher took my sweet time to beat), succeded much easier in harder quests.
So, I would say that the main problem is your character, because if a pure warrior has a hard time, a weak rogue is a much more difficult character to melee with.
My rogue beat him using a bow at melee range. That strategy would never have worked if I hadn't picked up the mana shield spell.
Now, I never liked diablo games or it's clones (torchlight, path of exile... I did beat Nox though, somehow). I fail to see how that turns into hatred of old games, and honestly, the OP is a living example that there's a use for the rep system. What an asshole.
Diablo is an old game ?

valdaintheking: The game pretty much just sucks. I just read the diablo wiki and my stats and damage are right. They just said you need to have more armor. But how the fuck do I know that. Word to the wise, usually the best games are the ones that you can finish. So that means all the old games pretty much suck balls. Big balls with salty vinegar.

The bow and arrow doesn't do enough damage so in essence the rogue is supposed to be a decent fighter just not as good as the warrior. I spent 6 trips to level 15 and town portal and for what. I figured there would be a good strategic fight. There really is no strategy.

So diablo 1 sucks
Diablo 2 sucks
Diablo 3 likely sucks. The whole fucking series is one gigantic tom cruise abortion.
Surely, you can troll better than this...
Okay who peed in the OP's Cornflakes?
Balderdash.

The Butcher with an underpowered sorcerer is harder.

jepsen1977: I could never get past the rhino creatures in Diablo 1 with my mêlée character. They would just bum-rush me and I would take massive damage and die. Right now I'm playing the new Diablo 3 (post patch 2.0) and I started out on Normal but after Act 1 had to turn it up to Hard because I never got below 60% health on Normal. I still haven't died on Hard and really is seems like Normal is Easy and Hard is Normal. I don't know why Blizzard went with that naming of the difficulty settings but maybe it is to make console kiddies feel better about them selves for beating a game on Hard? But why not just name it Easy and be done with it? I suck at games and I don't mind turning it down to Easy from time to time but just call it that in stead of that other nonsense PC.
When you see them coming move out of the way, they run into the wall pause then attack either nomally or if there is much distance charge again.

I have nightmares about Butcher. Definitely one of the more difficult bosses of my gaming history...
I finished Diablo: Hellfire long time ago but I don't remember it being hard or that it suck. I remember it being incredibly addictive though.
Anyway, I defeated Diablo with the melee Warrior. Diablo used to push me away with each hit, so I figured out I must place myself between a wall and him so when he hit me he doesn't push me away. From there it was simple "click until he drops dead", I maybe returned to town for fresh supplies once or twice.
Actually I think the Butcher is much harder boss than Diablo, if you're trying to beat him using force. But if you try to beat the Butcher using brains (even as the Warrior) he's super easy. ;)

Come on, not the most difficult.
It's the best, however, because it's big, scary, fast and unexpectedly hard if faced immediately.
(also, he's pretty angry compared to his reversed friendly advice XD)

Did you remember the Warlord of Blood? Totally immune to magic.. except for a single weakness that you have to discover as a Wizard ; )

i second this man butcher was something , i had a crappy system back then that had a 4x speed cd rom so as soon as that butcher level started the game would slow down you just had few frames to hide behind a door or else butchered to death.

speaking of that lol anyone remember duriel from diablo 2 ? haha

Duriel was a big PITA :) I remember him well... so was the Butcher. The thing is that one could entirely leave him (the butcher) alone and continue playing the game... not the case with Duriel though :/
