Any chances of this surfacing? I really enjoyed Diablo, but never got chance to play the expansion pack. I have never found this available anywhere. Any clues on purchasing this title?
The easy way would most likely be Ebay
I had it a few years ago. Truth be told you aren't missing very much. I think there's a new character and a new set of dungeons. My uncle set it up with custom characters based off of Lord of the Rings (This was before the movies)
Or any other other source of used physical copies of old games - I think I got mine used from Amazon.

I am guessing - GUESSING - that IF Blizzard were ever going to do a sanctioned downloadable version of the first Diablo, they'd host it themselves, rather than farming it out to GOG (or anyone else.) That's just based on how they tend to control their IP in general.

Since, IIRC, Hellfire was not an actual Blizzard release, but licensed to someone else - Sierra, wasn't it? - I would also guess that even if Diablo became available that way, Hellfire might not, because it would be one of those things where you'd have to line up the paperwork and goodwill from two companies, not just one. In general, those sorts of titles have even more trouble getting a digital re-release than other old games do.

And, this.

I know it's sort of a holy grail for some Diablo fans. It's the expansion to Diablo! But even back when I first got it - when I was playing a lot of Diablo, before Diablo II came out - I wasn't that impressed. Yes, it added a couple of new classes, and had new dungeons, but it just did not seem like it was as high a quality as Diablo. Oh, it wasn't utter crap, by any means. But after playing it a few nights, I just went back to playing more Diablo - better polished, better balanced, better tested, more consistently fun.

I still have a copy of this somewhere in my archive. I did like it (way back when...). I think what made it the most fun was the fact that it made Diablo "new" again after playing throug the basic game too many times to count. As folks said... it was Siera and it really did not add that much but it was nice to have something new before Diablo 2 came out.
I thought i had it but i cant find it. Also to make matters worse i have the big box version of Diablo i found the box bit the disc isnt there. Manual and stuff but no disc, i have the budget release too but still not happy...
It's been ages since I've played this, but I remember liking it. The crypts in particular were suitably creepy with all sorts of disfigured critters. If you manage to get a hold of it on Ebay or someplace I'd say it's worth a playthrough.

They already made their mind, and don't count Hellfire nor the events that took place in it, as an official thing.

@Passmore, just pirate it.

I really, really loved the Flesh Things and their roller skates. Among the most silly, but also most awesome monsters ever. That squeaking noise ...

I still have Hellfire. It wasn't developed by Blizzard and that's the main reason it's hard to get now. According to the cover it was made by Synergistic Software and published by Sierra.

Officially - one character, but two more were hidden and available to use by using additional configuration file. Overall, if I remember correctly, it was good and quite polished expansion, everyone was happy to get their hands on it.
The Hellfire expansion had nothing to do with Diablo's story and it wasn't developed by Blizzard. So one could say that its actually a Diablo "clone".
The biggest issue I had with Hellfire was that it was based on an older version of Diablo (I think 1.04 or 1.05). "Classic" Diablo kept getting more patches, fixing bugs and adding minor features and gameplay tweaks. But Hellfire never got those updates. So you had to chose between Blizzard's fixes and tweaks (which did catch some annoying, though not game-breaking, bugs), or Hellfire's extra content. It wasn't a true expansion pack as much as a "forked version" of the original Diablo.

Both eBay and Amazon currently have a few used copies for under $25. A bit high in my opinion, but your options to acquire a legitimate (non-pirated) version are pretty limited, so it's all about supply and demand.

That's a bit harsh. It was an officially licensed expansion to the original Diablo using the town of Tristram as a starting point. Suggesting that it's a clone when it uses the original engine and had the blessing of Blizzard at the time is a bit silly.

Now, whether or not you want to consider it canon is a completely different matter.

That being said, it's OK, but mostly for the fact that they included features that should have been included in the original release.

I've played it, and IMHO it didn't add that much to the base game. It felt like a rushed release tacked on original Diablo, milking on its success.

Ok it had apparently two new dungeons and one new player characters, plus a new item, runes (a booby trap). But still, I felt it isn't as important add-on to Diablo, as e.g. "Lord of Destruction" was for Diablo 2. LoD feels a more natural extension to the base game, better integrated or something, I'm not sure.

But I know (we) game collector's are completionists, I guess that is why I originally had to get it too. :)

I think about the only redeemable feautre it had was faster walking speed in town. Everything else was pretty dull.
