I have a netbook, and I have Diablo 2. I've already beaten it, however, and would rather play another "hack and slash" game in the same vein, rather than D2 again.
Are there any Diablo clones that will run well on a netbook (i.e. 800x600, not 3D, etc)?

Rather than looking at clones have you considered mods? (Seeing as you know D2 will already run)
Median XL - A TON of changes, too many to list.

Try this thread as well..
Ever played sacred? The characters and monsters are 3d but the world is 2d and its HUGE.

Blade & Sword is a blatant clone. The combat is much better, on the whole. But dropped items are practically non-existent. It doesn't have any randomly generated areas, but the trade off is that the areas are generally much more interesting... the first play through at least.
Not a lot of replay value, but if you see it cheap and you want a Diablo clone, you could do worse.
The problem with Sacred is that I think it requires 1024x600.
And I did consider D2 mods, but in the end I want something different and new...and hopefully better looking?

Darkstone.Really good alternative to Diablo 2.I recommend this.
Divine Divinity. More focus on extra-combat interactions than Diablo, but similar combat and gameplay mechanics.
Also Nox I hear good things bout.

If you can still find it somewhere, Revenant is very Diablo-like (if you can't find it, it's a Doom clone... ehm).
If you didn't have those specs i'd recommend the awesome titan quest.

I fucking love Sacred.

Titan Quest is fun, and much prettier than Diablo 2, but it has DRM and I am not sure it would do well on a netbook. I note slowdowns on my desktop that makes me think not.
Another fan of Sacred, if your netbook can take it. I'm playing the bejesus out of it and it is lots of fun. Tons of interesting loot, and if you make a character a trader, he becomes able to augment weapons and armor in ways that give him a lot of flexibility and replayability.
The game world is huge and very good looking, too. And the NPC's do a lot of running around and chatting in the background in a way that makes the gameworld seem much more alive and less dry than D2 did.
Additionally, if you read up around the web on how to do it, you can take NPC's into your party to help you fight, which is pretty cool. Most will die if you don't take good care of them, but you can feed them health potions very easily and they don't die too often. Some people get quite a few in their party. I'm running around with four now, and want to pick up two more, which will make battles pretty crazy and fun.
Unfortunately, the servers closed down so multiplayer is dead. It's single player all the way. So D2 still has that over most of its competition, even much newer games.
Funny how no one has mentioned Depths of Peril yet. I recommend Depths of Peril if you want a Diablo clone with a bit of a twist. I don't, however, recommend its sister Kivi's Underworld

Actually, TQ doesn't have DRM...it DID use SecuROM, but they patched that out awhile ago.
I agree though that it might not run too well on a netbook.
I've not gotten around to trying it out, but you could try FreeDroid RPG. ( http://freedroid.sourceforge.net/ ) It's very similar to Diablo, except it is entirely freeware. I don't think there is any multiplay in it though, but I could be wrong. Also, if you're familiar with Linux, you'll recognize Tux the Pengiun as the main character. Whether it is good or bad, it's freeware so it's definately worth a look.
Also, I've not yet tried it on a netbook since I've had no interest in playing it lately with all my new purchases (I can install and check if you'd like and report my opinion), but you could try FATE. There is no multiplay but it is a great hack n slash rpg with nice replay value. System requirements are not very demanding and I imagine would run on a netbook. And it is definately better in graphics, it just doesn't have that touch of darkness I want right now.
DarkStone as mentioned is also a good one, I've not played it in years though. I have both the Playstation and PC versions of it. Also, ya gotta love the music video for it. I'll have to dig that one out and play it again sometime.
Note: FATE does not require the CD to play so no need to keep an external drive at hand. I cannot remember if the CD is needed with DarkStone, I believe it is though.
UPDATED:: Ok I've installed FATE onto my netbook (OCZ neutrino), and as long as you don't want all the eye candy it seems to run fine. Turning off shadows had the biggest performance increase of course. Running it at 800x600 resolution. Actually, I had most of the stuff turned off or as low as possible, and it still looked better than Diablo 2. The install note said it would not run on PCs with an integrated GPU as it requires a 3D accelerated card, but I've ran it on an older notebook, a dual core atom PC I built, and now this netbook, all with interated GPU; and it runs fine on them all.
