There are so many players they have already put the server offline, this is the moment why I understand people hate that constant needing to be online.

Cheers! My thoughts exactly.

Oh, just leave him be. He has this strange asshole fetish, and always tries to talk about that.

And to make things worse what if the server goes down because blizzard stops supporting it you got a copy of the game on your shell wich will be there only to fill your collection.

They are still supporting Diablo, so I doubt that will happen with a newer game... but yea, I get your point.

Then you'll probably have been able to play the game for 10 years already or something.

And what part of this being a stress test open beta seems to be such a concept issue for some of you? They're keeping the cap low to test the stress on the servers. It's even said so several times on the login. Don't play a beta if you can't handle the problems and downtime that comes with it.

keeveek: Servers are too busy to let you play singleplayer? OH THAT'S AN IMPROVEMENT THEY WORKED FOR YEARS...

I thought a second about downloading 15 gigs of that beta, but I think I'll pass.

Neobr10: No, the beta is NOT that big. It used exactly 4,76GB on my HD.
Hm... the installer said I need at least 15 GB free on my HDD... this is why i skipped.

I know that already that its a beta but the problem is its a closed beta and only this weekend everybody can play it, well rather say can install it.

Exactly! What is the point of a beta for 3 days if it takes hours to get in...

To see whether the servers are prepared for the launch.

So its only there to fill the server and not to try it out.
avatar
hercufles: to try it out.
I'm sure it would have said 'Trial' instead of 'Beta' if that had been the case.

Wich you never get from blizzard.

Pheace: I wouldn't put this solely on the desire to DRM the user. It's also marketing. Making sure you can use the single player characters for multiplayer makes the step-in that much smaller and makes sure a higher percentage of players participates in that part of the game. It also helps create social bonds, peer pressure, viral marketing and all those things to a small extent which is one of the main reasons WOW has been around so long.
Yeah because Diablo 3 is such a barely know new IP and such a risky venture that they have to resort to such dirty tricks to get peoples to buy it. Do they really have that little confidence in the ability of their game to sell normally otherwise.

Also unlike WoW there isn't a monthly fee (at least not yet) so it's not like they needs peoples to continue playing it, unless of course they expect the money they will get from the auction house to make up for the lack of monthly fee.

I do believe they'd promote continued play for several reasons. Viral marketing being one of them. Maybe cross game promotional stuff between WOW/Diablo and whatever new MMO they're planning as well. Things like that. And yes, the auction house I think is a really relevant argument there. Especially with the real life currency thing. It's going to be quite the experiment.
