RedRagan: Diablo 2 : 17 millions sales

Diablo 3: 12 millions sales

There's 5 millons costumers lost.
avatar
stonebro: Ridiculous comparison.

Diablo 2: 17 million sales in 13 years, 1,30 million pr. year
DIablo 3: 12 million sales in 1.5 years, 8 million pr. year

On topic, I think this is fantastic news. Kudos to Blizzard for actually having the balls to remove one of the most touted features prior to Diablo 3 launch. With a complete redesign of loot and itemization systems to boot, this is shaping up to be one sweet expansion pack.
The intersresting thing will be how many people will buy the expansion. D2 without its expansion wouldn't have fly that well. I think the license took a really bad hit with D3, the 'upcomming' expansion sales will tell how bad.

Ehhh, most of D3's "sales" were people who were given a free copy if they upgraded their WoW subscription (which they usually do anyway).

D3 sold well based entirely on brand name and people's memories of D2, the fact that they game was pure rubbish however has permanently damaged the brand (some might even say killed it for good).

timppu: Was the auction house being misused, do they bring it down so that the console version buyers will not start demanding for an auction house of their own, etc. etc. etc.?
avatar
stonebro: The RMAH might not have been as much of a moneymaker as they thought. As far as I've seen, the activity on RMAH is fairly low. I've managed to sell a few good items in the $5-$10 price range. Most people are greedy and heavily overprice their auctions, leading to a jungle of $100-$250 items that really are worth maybe $3-$5. The gold auction house works much better in this regard. Sure, the very top weapons and set items can sell on RMAH for $100+, but those are also very rare. I bet they're not making the big piles of cash they expected when overhead is taken into account.
It was crazy in its (RMAH) launch days. Mediocre items would sell for $250 within the hour. I didn't get a piece of that pie, but I did sell a legendary for $80, another pretty good amulet for $73. All in all I did make about $350 before I quit the game. When I did toss the game aside, botters are already making the price of gold drop tremendously. My gues is that Blizzard couldn't control the influx of botters and the inflation.

Lone3wolf: I'd pay $5.99 for it.
Id still wait for it to go on sale.

Never gave a fuck about the auction house, not even once. Still waiting for an off-line mode before considering the purchase of the Reaper of Souls expansion.

Hehe..

But you're not the only one who got burned. Numerous clueless individuals purchased this game at launch without even checking the requirements. If enough people play the waiting game, then there's a slim chance that Blizzard will cave in and stop the shenanigans.

I'm just glad i found out, so the Grim Dawn team could put my money to much better use instead. ;^)
As an avid Diablo gamer, I have yet to try Diablo 3. Never liked the idea of an auction house to begin with as all the third party transactions on D2 were bad enough as is.
Once the price drops for the Xbox version, I'll see how it fares compared to Torchlight for example. My best friend said Diablo 3 is utter crap and stopped playing after week so I don't know what to think.
Looks like always online is here to stay:

Thanks. Nope, didn't send the link to Blizzard. They don't listen, they do something only if there is money to extract from dung. They are NOT Blizzard North anymore....

The fact is: I was pretty much aware of what Diablo III was way before I purchased it. I just hoped that beyond the crappy "game-as-a-service" aspect there were a fucking Diablo game. Contrariwise, all I got was an unreliable "on-line" service and a ridiculous Hollywood movie. And a bit of Diablo game, just a bit. The Action House, here, is just a little glimpse of how much Blizzard fucked up with Diablo III.

My DIII barbarian is at level 53 now, and I feel I will soon have enough with the game. This never, NEVER happened with Diablo II (I temporarily stopped playing because the fucking barbarians on Mount Arreat at the Inferno level are tough as shit for my Sorceress)....

DarrkPhoenix: Nice to see them realize what a stupid idea it was. Now if they also get rid of the online requirement I might be willing to pay $20 for it. In the meantime I've been meaning to check out some of the mods available for Torchlight 2.
Pretty much this.

I was super-hyped for Diablo3 myself - but when the bad news got out, i got seriously pissed at Blizzard and swore i would never, ever buy into their products again. This is what happens when companies get greedy, and arrogant decision-makers run the show. They don't really care about their customers, but only their own wallets.

Btw, nice website, - Bookmarked!
Are you the anti-pope ?

I remember my 45 minutes fight back in the days. After getting this done with my sorceress, I weirdly felt like I really achieved something.

Sidenote : nice link :)

It is nearly as good as Torchlight. It has more action, the drops are fine, but the end game is missing.

Please note that I'm talking about the console. The PC version still had horrible lags, not that much action and drops that makes you scream. (Learn to pick up 10,000 items before you found one that is an improvement.)
