This news made me happy. Gyahahahahaha take that Blizzard!

KneeTheCap: The funny and sad fact is that the pretty much only DRM that kinda sorta works is the always-online one. Not that it makes it any more acceptable, of course.

Navagon: LOL

I take it you are joking, right?
Well I meant that cracking thing. My bad, poor wording. Sorry.
Well, the console version is playable offline.
This is very good news indeed. It's a stab to always-online as others have pointed out. More and more big names in the gaming world are stripping the always online aspects of their games, or even going a step further.

Can't wait to see if you they get rid to always online altogether, but maybe that's asking too much (?) A gamer can hope for the best.

I thought you were taking the piss out of Ubisoft's stance on their UbiDRM while that was still in its - for want of a better word - prime. They extolled its abilities to crush piracy down to almost nothing, all the while ignoring the fact that PC sales were at the same level.

Well it does prevent cracking. It does prevent sales too...

I am not defending the practice, I only commented that it does prevent cracking the game.

Psyringe: What's Diablo 3? ;-P
A typo. It's spelt Torchlight 2.

But it IS true. The main reason DRM exists is to prevent piracy (and second-hand sales). Blizzard's always-online is the first DRM so far that has succeeded in preventing piracy.

Whether or not it's acceptable is a different issue. The fact is that as a DRM method it worked.

You're right about that, as much as it pains me to say. I only wish Blizzard had a little more love for the people who made D1 great and who stood in line at midnight to buy D2.
This is why I love Blizzard ^^. They aren't afraid to try out new things, but back out of their decisions if they turn out wrong.
This almost makes me want to spend less time praising them and more time playing their games ;P...
Jeffrey, fetch two of my finest lolz. This is a special occasion.
Not sure why people are happy about this. Removing the real money market will move it to ebay and other external sites. Removing the gold auction house will just make trading extremely annoying with trade channels and forums.
The game will still be shit, just a bit more annoying.

I would call it a fact, rather than truth. Truth requires a broader perspective on the matter. That perspective including the fact that this has cost publishers considerable numbers of sales. Diablo 3 might not be the best example. In fact would almost be the exception to the rule if we had any way of knowing how many would have bought it had it not been crippled that way.
Now we just need them to ditch the activation and the always online DRM bs. After that i just might want to play the game.
Two more years and the bastard goes offline. I can wait, I will wait.
Seriously who thought RMAH was good for players in the first place? The official cheat for 'I can't beat diablo but hey 10 bucks can solve the issue' kind of warriors, paradise for chinese farmres, that's it.
