I have a key for the expantion for daiblo 2 but am not sure if the key is bound to that one disc.
one would assume so but i have not found much information about it.

It's not... usually. Some newer keys will not work with older install CDs because Blizzard changed the key format a few years back.

If you have a Battle.net account, you can add your key (old or new) to your account and download the game from Blizzard.

any discs should work also you can use the key to download the game straight from blizzard

go to battle.net create an account or log into one that you already have and register the keys for diablo 2

Foxhack: It's not... usually. Some newer keys will not work with older install CDs because Blizzard changed the key format a few years back.

+1 for that. I personally have done that with all applicable games as I don't sell or lend them ever and it's rather more convenient than having to plug in the DVDRW just to play a game.
