doady: Didn't realize indie games with full 3D graphics and hi-res 2D artwork were so common in 1993.
I'd say this looks better than Morrowind. The art direction in Devil Whiskey looks great. Morrowind's art direction was atrocious.
I'll try the demo, maybe I will be surprised. If it is any good, for $30 + shipping I prefer to get the old-school boxed version with old school thick printed manual. $25 for a digital version of a 9 year old game is just outrageous, no matter how good the game is.
Btw, this was actually originally called Bard's Tale: The Devil Whiskey. EA took exception to that. GOG really should get on this (and Bard's Tale and Dragon Wars as well).
EA destroyed bards tale by making it a baldurs gate alliance.I'd say this looks better than Morrowind. The art direction in Devil Whiskey looks great. Morrowind's art direction was atrocious.

I played the demo but I'm not impressed.
Graphically the game looks nice, when it's not being old school simply for the sake of old school. And for the most part, it is old school just for the sake of old school. You can't see enemies, the interface is designed around the keyboard, movement is strictly tile-based, the combat is so abstract, etc.
Unlike old-school RPGs like Might and Magic VI and Wizardry 8, Devil Whiskey just adds nothing new, at all. Die-hard fans of Bard's Tale and Dragon Wars and people who want an unflinching adherence to old-school game design make like it, but if I wanted that I rather just play the actual classics.
I don't remember saying that Morrowind is 2.5D in a tiny window.

I tried the demo years ago, so it was probably an earlier version of the demo (if such a thing exists), so what I am going to post here may no longer be relevant, but anyway...
I often get simulator/motion sickness from first-person perspective games with fluid 3D movement, so when I heard about Devil Whiskey and its tile-based step-by-step movement, I thought hey it must be a heaven-sent, right? So I gave the demo a try. Well... I did not like it. Right at the beginning in the characters generation screen, I found that the character portraits are not uniform. Some have faces only; others with half a body (showing shoulder and chest). They just do not look professional IMHO.
Then came the gameplay itself. Granted I had (and still have) no gaming experience with the Bard's Tale series (and only have totally different gaming experience with the 2004 inXile version, so that does not count) or Dragon Wars, so chances are more than likely I just suck at this kind of game, but to die countless times in the first 15 minutes of gameplay is not what I would call fun. Bard's Tale fans will likely blast me for this though :-P All in all, it's just not my cup of tea.
Also, I heard that the game itself has problems (bugs or such) but the developers have stopped working on it (or even caring about it) years ago. I do not recall what the problems were though, so...
Anyway, just download the demo, and give it a try. It is better to get a feel of it yourself, who knows maybe you'll like it.

Thanks for writing your oppiniun here, well I remember bard''s tales for being very hard but it had something unique like splitting your party up. Well maybe they have improved the demo I will tell my oppiniun when i installed it wich I am doing atm.I often get simulator/motion sickness from first-person perspective games with fluid 3D movement, so when I heard about Devil Whiskey and its tile-based step-by-step movement, I thought hey it must be a heaven-sent, right? Come to think of it I also had problems with Warrior's Tale, so maybe I just suck at this kind of game in general, therefore maybe I probably should not have been too hard on Devil Whiskey :-)

Nice thanks well i tried the game and even the controls are even worse then bards tale the game doesnt know if it wants to be controlled by mouse or keyboard sometimes you can use mouse other times you need to use the keyboard. And the encounter can sometimes happen when they are from a distant so if you got a party with only melee weapons you got a problem and I couldnt find oput wich class can heal. For those who don't know it, here is the link:

Fair enough, sounds like my kind of game from the screenshots and information available on the site, though I think I'll wait until it's actually a full release.http://www.decklinsdemise.com/index.htm

Oh, no. When the game introduces holes that drop you file levels deeper or monsters that are immune to weapons and magic... Then it's punishment.
