valdaintheking: The reason why is that puzzles take away the emphasis on COMBAT
They take away the emphasis on STRATEGY
They take away the emphasis on ROLEPLAYING
And they take away the emphasis on ACTION
Taking my 5 favorite games of all time:
- Two of them have no COMBAT in any form, one has two short puzzle\combat segments and one gets a lot of negativiti for including combat segments.
- Only one of them has tactical elements (but you can easily ignore them)
- Only one of them (the same that has strategy elements) has roleplaying, the rest of them are linear stories.
- Only one of them has action elements. The one that gets some hate for having them.
They all have puzzles.
I love those games.
And for the stuff I don't like in games and wouldn't mind to get rid of - 'Press X not to die'. You can take QTEs away and I'll be happy :)
