But moaning that it's on steam and not GOG is a wee bit childish. Maybe asking if it is coming to GOG is a little different.

Crosmando: Letting everyone know the Freespace 2 is the best space sim EVAR, and also that it has a source-port which is way better than playing vanilla.

It's been on GOG since, like, forever. The OP was mistaken and thought the game wasn't here because the game is just called "Freespace" here rather than "Descent: Freespace - The Great War".

Surprised no-one has mentioned that the Steam version seems to be missing the expansion. Selling it as DLC, mayhap?

It's not even worth buying Freespace 1 really, especially when it plays through DOSbox. It's best way to play is to buy FS2, then use the Freespace Open Installer, where you can install a free port of the FS1 campaign in the upgraded FS2 engine, complete with widescreen resolutions, high-res texture packs, etc etc.
The beauty of a game having it's source-code freely available.

Freespace is not a DOS game.
If you will not buy Freespace 1 you will not get cutscenes in Freespace SCP. playing FS1 campaign.
It would be damn interesting to see how many units of the game Steam sells. It was a gog-exclusive for so long.

Hmmm, I was sure it was DOS.... anyway if you use the FS Open Installer, you can just download the cutscene files straight off the server hardlight.net is hosting from, no need to actually buy FS1.

tburger: Really? That's odd. Ah, nevermind. I bought FS1 to be fair and square using Interplay's game and just for the sake of having vanilla version as well.
Also there's a standalone mod/game which uses Freespace 2 engine to make a Battlestar Galactica space sim. If you wanna fight against Cylons for a change.
