I've been looking forward to this. Looks awesome.
Trying the demo now.

Cool the gameplay sounds like it might actually be kind of fun in a boring menu management kind of way but I do enjoy those types of games every now and again. From watching the little video though they don't really live up to the massive space battle idea they are trying to sell. It actually looked worse then alot of the space games I've played in the sense of not having much firepower flying around the screen at the same time.
I really wanted to play this, but the demo crashes every time I try to launch it.
Oh well.
Maybe it's the system requirements, as I couldn't find it.
Tried it. It seems okay but you can't control the ships in battle.

Nice: Now downloading.
What dissapoints me is that the game is 2-D. Everything else about the game intrigued me, but when I saw it was all on a 2-D plane, I quickly lost all interest.
You're on Gog, the home of 2D games galore, and you lost interest in the game because it's 2D? Hmmm...
I can finally live out my Commander Adama fantasies now.
I bought it while still in beta, and it does have a bit of charm to it. It is DRM free, and Positech Games is very responsive to its users which is a real plus.
For me personally, the game itself is fun, but I am not one that overly enjoys spending most of the time preparing the ships for battle to see how they fare against other ships.
There are a ton of possibilities to the game and if you area micro manager it should fit you well.
It is not too bad to sit back and watch your little creations go off and battle it out, as some battles have come down to the wire of winning or losing.
One nice feature is that if you think you have made a really hard fleet, you can submit it online and others can download it and play against your fleet and then you can see the results on the boards.
It will not be a game for everyone, but for people that love to tweak and toy with ideas, and different configurations to get the best ship possible it should be a rewarding game to play, and watch!

Space is limitless, battles in space shouldn't be 2D, really.
I don't think he's bashing the graphics.

Space is a lot of things which can make for a very boring, unmanageable, and often ugly game. Concessions are made in games because that assists with the whole 'fun' thing.

If only it were done in more games. Lots of developers and/or publishers seem to think that ALL games MUST be in 3D. Whether that is an appropriate choice for any given game seems to be a thought that never occurs to them.

It's just this one game that is let down by being 2D, as space is not flat.

Seems pretty good. I noticed some good mods are already in the works, too...Star Wars, BSG, WW2 naval combat, etc.
needs an easier interface to choose targets, and manoeuvring your ships around....
I won all 3 of the demo battles with vanilla pre-configured ships in basic formations....
