Demigod.....what kind of game is it?
Im excited about Elemental. Im not going to be pre-ordering it though. I cant stand the idea of playing a beta game. Id rather play a finished one.

JudasIscariot: Demigod.....what kind of game is it?

Demigod is the new game from Total Annihilation Chris Taylor (not to be confused with Fallout Chris Taylor.)
The basic concept is that of an RTS with regular units, but also gigantic demigod units that are upgradable in various ways.
I'll look it up on google for you.

i find when it comes to sci fi everyone just copies every one else most of the time without noticing to quote a phrase "all of this has happened before and will happen again"

Nothing new under the sun, eh?
Anyone is playing this game? I really want to buy it but I need a demo first. Game's price is really good $39.99, but demo will be awesome before the buy. Good thing is they will release a demo in near future.
Also Impulse is worrying me, I am not a big fan of it. But they are saying game is DRMless, how can that it be? Impulse is only required for update or mp games?

Apparently there will be a demo within the month according to comments on the RPS article. I know I won't be picking this up without a demo first. I guess one wasn't really ready yet partly due to the game releasing early or something.
And yes, Demigod has zero DRM on it.

Game doesn't need Impulse to run? And can I play the game with latest updates and MP without it? If so that is great.

I expect it's like most of their games and you'll need Impulse only for when you patch it. But I don't use Impulse so I can only go by what's written on their site.

you can only play via internet with the latest patch. you will probably need impulse for patching but it does not need to run while playing.

I know I can't play without the latest patch online but I asked this because maybe they will release manual patches like other retail games. Anyway I will wait for demo first.

Actually, they just released a new version of Impulse...one of the features of it is that it would have Impulse's DRM/patch access built in WITHOUT requiring the Impulse client. I don't know if it was 'ready to go' early enough to be used for Demigod, though.

You're referring to 'Goo'. Ive read a lot about this game and as far as I know it has absolutely no DRM, Goo included (unless you count the Impulse/patch thing as DRM). Even if it has Goo, I might buy it..basically it's just a one time activation, tied to your email/serial. Sucks for people without Internet, though...
Edit: Wardell (Stardock CEO/game's executive producer) says it has zero copy protection. Im gonna assume that means zero DRM (patches excepted), also. He says some interesting things about piracy there, for those interested..
Anyway yeah, Im definitely picking this up.

retail stardock games usually have no drm. if you patch it or download it via impule it will come with goo (or an early version of it) and will need and online activiation. but you wont notice it since impulse will handle that automaticly since you are online at that time anyway.
Sins of solar empire had a few standalone patches. no idea if this is going to happen again.
