Does anyone have one and can give some recommendations?
I'm at the point where I'm about to buy my netbook and so far the inspiron mini 9 is the top of my list.
The major downside of the dell is that it doesn't seem to be available in the shop I was planning to use. My sister is doing a few large purchases from one shop in town and I was going to whack the netbook in there and bargain the price down so hopefully I'm paying a good deal less. The upside is that I can get a 5% discount if i order online because my uni has an enterprise supply agreement with dell and that gives discounts to staff and students as a side benefit. The problem with ordering online is that they only have stock of the white one at the moment which is not only dull but has the danger of being mistaken for a mac at medium-long range and I don't want cute girls to assume I'm gay. the 16GB SSD is a bit small but I can double that with a SDHC card and 32GB should be more than enough for xp, office 2007, a few gog games and emergency porn.
Theres nothing much else I've seen in town that fits the bill:
Acer Aspire One
I've only seen the liunx version in town which has a tiny little SSD and only 512MB ram. I want to run XP on it which would be simple enough to install but the sheer level of work in upgrading the ram makes it a turn off, especially since it would void the warranty (you have to almost completely disassemble it to get to the ram slot). Unless I can find the windows version for a decent price (which is somewhat unlikely in this place), thats out
EeePC
I've seen both the linux and windows ones in town but from the little I've used of the display models, the smaller keyboard is just that bit too small for my huge hands and since I'm buying it to type on, that's a major negative.
Toshiba N100
It looks kind of swish but pretty much every review I've read of it says it's a cheap and nasty quickie that's not fit to bear the normally good name of toshiba. It's also the most expensive netbook I've seen in town and pretty much out of my price range.
Anyone got some last minute horror stories of the inspiron that might dissuade me?
