If someone were to PM me a key because he/she had an extra one.. I might join the server once or twice.

lowyhong: So the only way for me to kill a namana is to drown? D:
I don't think that they live in the water, I've seen a few by running around the dungeon. They look like humanoid trees. Try looking for them on the second or third level.

There's a secret door if you from the entrance go as much right as you can, turn left and try to enter all the right walls. Sometimes I've found Namana there. There's another secret door in that room, so try to find that one as well by moving against the walls.

The topmost entry is what it looks like:

guys, I missed you yesterday. Leveled 2 levels up on my own and have a potion to increase Dex but it is aligned evil... so if someone likes it? It cost too much to make it a good potion :)
Sorry, playing Vampire Bloodlines ATM. It's taking up all my time right now :(

...it is a terrible RPG, IMO. The races don't make any sense (for example: why are Yeti's the best SWIMMERS?!), the classes/guilds don't make any sense, combat is just horrible with ZERO tactical or strategic facets.

moyal: Demise is not for everyone. It is hardcore-extreme to the most.
It is old school par excellence.
Whether it is considered "old school" by you or anyone else is quite aside from the point. I myself am as 'old school' as RPGers get. I pretty much only play turn-based games and most of them are either 15-25 years old and/or they have graphics that are Ultima 4 or 5 era (i.e. Natuk, Helherron, Nahlakh etc.).

But there is good old school and BAD old school. I just don't think Demise is very good.

The races/guilds are all 'fine-tuned' in Ascension, just belief me...and read the manual.
I read the manual. Do not care one iota whether they are 'fine tuned' because they do not make sense. I think proper game design requires that the classes make sense FIRST then are tweaked for better balance. You would not design a fantasy RPG where warriors cannot wear armor or use swords, using play balance as a rationale because you gave them the power to teleport at will. You would, I hope take away the nonsensical powers/abilities and work from there towards balance vs. other classes. Demise just seems to be a LOT of nonsense that may be well balanced in some sense.
To really like it and even 'love' this game, you have to be a 'geek', like in the 'good-old times' (pre-1990's).
Check. I am a pre-1990s geek. And I hate this game because it is poorly designed, ugly (the graphics are worse than the Everquest BETA graphics! And I am no advocate for impressive graphics in RPGs.) and completely nonsensical within the genre it seeks to emulate.
This Dungeon is there to kill you,....can you beat it ?
It ALL makes 'sense' - but you have to invest serious time 'to get' the nuances.
First mission is .... to 'read the fucking manual'!
Read the manual. Was the first thing I did when I bought the game and with the "Ascension" expansion as well. None of this game makes much sense and I have NO desire to 'beat the dungeon' because the game fails to entice me to want to do so.

@ SkeleTony:

All fine and good.
... In the end, Demise is 'just' an old cult-game.
For 'outsiders', a 'cult' is always an uncomprehending solitary confraternity.

Demise - Rise of the Ku'tan (Oubliette-Avatar-Mordor-Demise) is, what 'Diablo & Co.' always wanted to be....but only achieved to 'be' for the masses. (...also even FIRST [!] Wizardry is 'only' an early successful 'spin-off'...)
(It started all in the 1970's on PLATO). ... 'toddler'!
... If YOU 'get it' or not, makes no difference.

Demise Ascension IS the most up-to-date 'ultra-über-bla-bla-hardcore' in 'Dungeon-Crawling' !!!
...the 'programming-code'-roots go back to 'archaic' times...

About Namanas:

SPOILER!!!

They can be found from Level 2 on, think 'stud squares' ...but better go to level 3 to find one.
....There is no need for 'swimming', to kill one.

About 'swimming:

SPOILER !!!!

You can't 'swim' in this game.
If you go in water, you are 'under water' (and one more level down!!!)... and your 'breath ability' comes into play. (...there are different means to prolong this...)
But... if you can 'fly', you can fly over the surface, go down and up again any time ... as you wish. ('+/-' ...-Keys...for 'up and down')

If you can't fly, and are under-water and want to get out ..:

...you have to find stairs that lead out ...
...or die through suffocation ....

....or teleport out, by some means...

False analogy about the 'cult' thing. I don't view Demise fans as strange cultists I cannot make sense of. I view them as gamers who happen to like a game I happen to think is poorly designed. I am fully aware of the 'roots' of CRPGing. I played Oubilette. I do not see how that sort of name dropping about which games you played or enjoyed that preceded Demise is even relevant? Unqualified (and wildly hyperbolic)assertions about any of this do not convince me I am wrong.

But I will leave it at that. Did not want to start a debate about a game I do not care much for. I think Allen got screwed over BTW with the 'Horizons' deal and I root for the guy to make a comeback, but I hate his CRPG designs.
Anyone still playing?

lowyhong: Anyone still playing?
I'd say no. :( I didn't realize this topic was from June so I opened the game and looked at the server list but there was no GOG server listed. :)

Ubivis: Hi fellow GOGers,

GOGtopia has opened his gates with a dedicated Server for Demise - Ascension.
Feel free to join the server (refresh the master server list and find "GOGtopia").
If you are asked for a server password, please use "GOG" :)

Hope to see other players there ;)
Hey Ubivis are you still running this server? I'm thinking of reinstalling Demise: Ascension. Got a sudden itch to play it.

As it was dead, I turned it off... but I would be happy to reactivate it.
New Game, or the old running world?
Ah. Is it any bother to reactivate it? Sorry!
