That's probably caused by compatibility issues with newer versions of Windows and not a problem with the CD itself.
Open Computer and browse the CD manually (by right-clicking and choosing Open). Look for the installer (called SD_Install.exe for the English version), right click it, and choose Properties. On the Compatibility tab, check the box at the top and choose Windows 95 from the list. Now try running it. This fix works for other games where the installer only gets to 99%, so it may work here too.
If that doesn't work, try temporarily copying the CD's entire contents somewhere on your hard drive and run it from there, again with Windows 95 compatibility mode applied.
90% of games I see coming out these days are FPS games developed on consoles then ported to PCs. So not only do they have typical console issues, games these days follow a very strict formula, because non-gamer execs figured out what sells, and they're going with more of the same and killing off any hopes of big-time distribution for original gameplay or any new IPs.
This is due to one thing: frat boys. Now that they all love games, we're going to see nothing but games with frat-level intelligence in design, gameplay, and graphics (everything grey, dark grey, and some light grey). I don't know what got into them, but I resent them more than ever now because they had a hand in ruining gaming. I think G4 buying out Tech TV helped as well, because once G4 became Spike 2.0 and running shows designed for retards, they started watching it.
MMO's are weak sauce, because there are no penalties for dying, and PK is a joke. Why people keep paying for these is a total mystery to me.
So we have a system in place that holds down innovation, and a design philosophy that puts graphics over gameplay. This is what really does it for me. Campaigns in games are now 6-10 hours, where you used to expect 30-40 hours. We're getting charged more money for dramatically less game. I say make the Quake 3 engine the highest you're allowed to go. Any developer using more advanced technology than that should get fined or something.
Wow, that was random.
While this particular news does not concerm me as such (I hate EA, don't play sports games and could not care less if EA does not produce another PC game) I tough it would ad some fire to depade:
NHL10 will NOT be produced for the PC/PS2
Regarding NHL10 for PC
Hi everyone - I'd like to preface this announcement by thanking all of our contributors and supporters over the past year and a bit for their hard work, dedication and involvement in keeping the PC Hockey modding scene alive. We may all complain about the inaccuracies of the games we've acquired over the years, but its a labour of love, and without that work we wouldn't have such a great community.
On to the announcement.
As some of you may know, I've been in contact with Ryan Nicholas who is the current producer of the NHL games for PC/PS2 for the last 2-3 years. We've been collecting data based on the requests and concerns of the users, and working on efficient ways of implementing them into the game (albeit slowly!).
I regret to inform all of you that I was notified on Monday that NHL10 will NOT be produced for the PC/PS2. As of now, the division in charge of putting out hockey games for those platforms have been reassigned to work on the console versions (XBOX 360 and PS3). Due to economic concerns, the separate PC version wasn't worth putting manpower into - I don't blame them, since the revenue from PC sales wasn't high enough to create a significant profit for the company.
For those who were expecting a "next-gen" experience this September will probably have to wait for longer, and it may possibly never come back at all.
So thats it - here we are, left with our small community to work on a discontinued series for the PC. Some of you may decide to move on to bigger and brighter things, others may stick around to keep the old games alive with new ideas and new spark. Whatever the case may be, HD will still be here to host your creations.
Thanks.
-Drezz

As for the question about wether or not PC gaming is dying: I think PC gaming is evolving rather than dying. Many/most of the big publishers/developers have become too bloated to profitably develop games for PC platform. They consentrate too much on graphics often making games require the very best of the harware available on market on day of release (even that may not be enough to run it on full settings) thus greatly reducing their potential customer base. Many of them also waste ridiculous amounts of money on marketing. Unless they rethink their strategy many of them will eventually either go bust or concentrate solely on developing games for consoles as PC game development costs continue spiral out of controll and less and less people can affort to purchase latest hardware.
This however will make room for indie game developers and publishers who can not affort to compete with graphics (thus concentrate on gameplay, story and features instead) and can target and survive on niche markets.

That's not surprising; for no adequately explained reason, EA builds the PC versions of their sports titles from the PS2 code rather than porting from the 360 like they do for everything else.
Dropping the ageing PS2 is a logical decision, and it just so happens that the PC loses out in the process. While it would certainly be possible to produce a 360-based version the inevitably higher system requirements would mean far fewer players of the past PC versions could run it, and most people play sports games on consoles anyway.

OH,and btw,i have the 3 cds of battlefield 2,the first 2 work fine but the third comes with that cyclic redundance error,bu i stil got the original CD-KEY,so if i downlaod those cds from the internet or the dvd version(its not for making copies,is for JUSTICE!,) and put the original CD-KEY,i would be able to play on normal servers (not cracked servers?

comando602: IT CAME AGAIN WITH THAT REDUNDANCY CYLCE ERROR OR WHATEVER ... i have the 3 cds of battlefield 2,the first 2 work fine but the third comes with that cyclic redundance error

This error typically indicates something is wrong with the disc. It may be something as simple as being a bit dirty, but it's also possible that the disc has some minor damage. The damage won't necessarily be visible to you (e.g. scratches).
One thing you could try is making a copy of the disc with a program such as (free). I had to do this with my own Sea Dogs CD. The copying process may take a very long time because the drive has to go over and over the problematic sectors until it reads the data correctly, but hopefully it will get done with 0 errors and you'll be left with a perfect copy of your disc. You can then mount it with a virtual drive such as [url=http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html]Virtual CloneDrive (also free) and you should be able to install from it. After installation you should be able to go back to the real CD for playing, because the verification check is a lot less thorough than installation and shouldn't run into a redundancy error. If it does you can burn the image to a CD or even keep playing from the virtual drive.

Theoretically that should work, but it would depend on the release not being a "rip", from a version with a different set of keys, or pre-cracked in some manner. Try making an image of your own disc first; that should work unless the disc is really messed up.

While it would certainly be possible to produce a 360-based version the inevitably higher system requirements would mean far fewer players of the past PC versions could run it, and most people play sports games on consoles anyway.

The problem is that every year, EA usually makes a "new sports" game -- which likely is the same game as last year's -- but instead has a few new engine tweaks; new gameplay tweaks; maybe one or two new game modes; and typical HUGE roster update. Who wants to buy that every year for $30-50? By the time the next new game rolls out the very next year, I might as well toss the old one out the window b/c it's not being supported anymore...
That's usually why I usually wait til the game drops majorly in price before I buy a new version of one of their sports game -- and also why I buy a new EA sports game every so many years.
Here's an idea -- every so many years, EA makes a new sports game off a brand new engine when the hardware majorly changes. Maybe say every 5 years and/or when a new OS drops.
So, for one generation of OS's, we get say on the PC one NBA game called in 2010 called EA NBA Revolution. Don't give it a year, give it a NAME. Every following year, EA pumps out a new EXPANSION pack for you to buy -- whether they sell it via digital download DLC style, retail stores, whatever, yearly -- to add say additional set of rosters (for the new season), new gameplay tweaks, new rosters, new gameplay modes, etc etc.
Many people seem to dig the expansion buying craze with every Sims iteration in that game series -- so, why not do it with sports games?
And since EA is also known for re-releasing games with additional expansions inside the box in a nice bundle when they drop a new expansion or at a later date, why not?

Look, if you honestly think computer gaming is going to die, you are dead wrong, there's no way around it. As long as there are computers, someone will look at that market and realize there is money there.
If, somehow, no one was making any new PC games all of a sudden, that would be an entire, empty market ripe for a publisher to pick. No publisher would fail to recognize how much profit there could be there. And it would never get that far, because as long as there is a computer in almost every household and people who want to play video games, the demand will just rise every time the supply of good games starts to slump, its been happening for years.
It would be stupid to say that PC gaming is the same as it always was. It is even easy to make solid arguments that it is declining. But it is also changing, I don't know if for better or worse, but certainly some interesting stuff is coming from that change, like indie games and episodic gaming. And GOG.
Rest assured though, there is no way PC gaming could die. People like all of us on this forum will always exist and we will always want to play games on our computers, and that is the only thing it needs to survive. That and our money.
Captfitz, that couldn't have been said any better....
Kudos.
PC gaming won't ever die, it will for the foreseeable future be the bastion of homebrew games, which I expect to see grow for quite some time with the advent of cheap (and free)compilers and better technology. While I don't play on the PC much anymore, I still can develop without much fuss for fun on the PC.
That being said, i do think commercial PC gaming will also be around in some capacity but it seems to be dwindling due to the great consoles we have. The Xbox360 and Playstation 3 are very focused gaming systems that frankly do an incredibly better job at just 'working' than the PC, the reason is a standardized set of hardware on the consoles so there's less work for game developers to support to support a wide variety of hardware, just what the machines have in them.
I personally have always been into PC gaming bigtime but as of two years ago threw in the towel cause I grew tired of constantly having to update my PC which is costly, and deal with hunting for patches and fighting with performance and having things work the way I'd like, it was jsut very error prone, always has been so I broke down and went full console with the Xbox360 and have been very happy (well until it broke recently but overall, I payed a full 3rd less for the console than a new PC.. and things generally just work without much fuss).
