I tried for two hours to buy something. I wanted several games, but I couldn't add everything to the cart without problems. So, I just got two games. I checked out, went to paypal, and paid. The transaction went through (shows up in my paypal account as paid) and then I was returned to GOG where I got a server error. Now the games I bought don't show up in my account even though I've paid.
I sent a support request and included my order information, but I'm not even sure that went through. If it did, I have no idea when they'll get around to adding the games to my account.
It would be nice if they had a way of prioritizing orders to specific servers or something like that to make the checkout process more reliable.

I hope they update the servers soon, they should prioritize the payment server. That took a couple of tries to get through for me. But now that I purchased stuff, it looks as if there will be no downloading cause I can't even get the download links to come up lol. I don't particularly mind not downloading now, but I can see how some people would be kind of upset they can't download their purchases immediately.
Their previous fall promo was no where near as bad on the servers as this one. That one I had no payment issues (except on the limited free ones) but the my account listing and downloading ran perfectly fine. This one feels as if GoG is barely running ;).

sigh... I agree.
I guess it is best to stay away from gog until the sale is over and things are stable again. This is not very proffessional.

Besides hadnt they mentioned they already had extra capacity in preparation for this sale already and they getting more servers now?. No business will have way over excess capacity when not needed...in this case though bet they are surprised at the number of people hitting the site...

That is because the electricity infrastructure is not up to muster. That is why it cannot stand the load.

TET says:
Our highest traffic day ever was during the Insomnia sale--we ordered double the servers of that sale, and it still wasn't nearly enough. We're rolling out another order of the same size in the next hour or so, and then we should be good to go.

They took the number of servers from the highest traffic day they have EVER had. They doubled them. And still it was not enough. So they did it again! We will be on four times the number of servers the Insomnia sale needed. They're trying, we're just site-destroyers. :D

I got the overloaded page loading this thread
I found it strangely amusing
I think checking sales may wait with this though
