Just adding him the same day you made that post about free games, and in this context to get a free copy of DOTA 2 from him. Does not like your doing anything to help him. Also he was barely giving away anything that was in high demand so i doubt he would need to divert anything. DOTA2 has been worthless for about 2-3 months now.


See, the funny thing is, its easy to keep making up stories. Secondly, that was not months ago, that was just over one month ago, and your steam account is only two months old.

Seriously, guys. He apologised for his past actions, and now you are digging up past actions on an entirely separate forum against him, instead of dealing with it constructively. A 14 year old was selfish and silly (because god knows, that's rare) — and then apologised. Pretty simple, really.

This thread went from good intentions to an absolute mess. I am having trouble seeing any justification for the lengths to which this has gone.

Although, you might have better luck if you come back later since the community is a little more snippier than usual especially with a spammer issue we had last month. Then an influx of new peeps coming in. You might have better luck later when things settle down and people have a chance to chill.

I shudder to look at what else went on here. My vote is on see if he improves and let him have a clean slate.

(To everyone else: I know I might be bumping this thread but I was sleeping for the past 8-10 hours and missed a bunch of stuff so I couldn't respond to any of it until now.)

As I have said several times before(here/other threads) not everyone takes everything the same way. And I don't think it disadvantages anyone to be low-rated(on posts/overall) much, but the effects are still there. Some won't trust a person with low rep easily, which is their call to make, but how are they to know if the person's rep is low due to him/her deserving it or that person's account having it's rep manipulated down(Clarification: By manipulated I mean people downrating everything he/she posts out of spite and not those downrating stuff that needs to be downrepped.)?

Yet another person doesn't seem to get it(I have explained how this line of thinking is inaccurate many times before but people just seem to ignore it.).....the issue isn't caring about being downrated/rep in general but when people use the downratings system to manipulate someone else's rep down.

Which is why I have petitioned in the past for it to be changed to make it harder to game the system or removed entirely. (If people need an indicator of a person's status in the community they can look at that user's join date and ask other people in the community.)

I agree +1's won't really help the OP, but on the other hand -1ing him to oblivion won't help him either(And given how obsessed he seems with rep it might actually make things worse.).

seriously? there are people here who judge others by the "rep" number without actually knowing anything about him/her?

what about the actual text they wrote, or how they behave?

Just look at those hosting giveaways only for those above a certain number of rep since the scammer hit. Also look at those who will now only trade with those who have a certain amount of rep. Rep may be unimportant to you/me/others, but it seems to me that it's somewhat important to some if such contests/trade rules are setup by some here & it's important to newcomers if they want to someday participate in such events.

I'm also guessing some new members will take a person's rep too seriously as well(when dealing with such people), even if only for a short time until they get to know that person.

Must admit, that right there is true. Very high rep would probably mean they've been around for a long time and they know what they're talking about (on some subjects, at least). Hardly a substitute of actually getting to know the person, but something to look at when you start.

No wonder Anasto was so successful at scamming people.
