Licurg: I made an account with Origin to download this, and it was only needed for the download .

ReynardFox: I don't know how origin downloads work, but does this mean you can backup the installer or the installed files and run them natively without origin or online requirement?
it's just like steam, you can run the games in off line mode, however you cant run the game without origin

F4LL0UT: Ironically Battlefield 3 is the one game that seriously contributed to Origin's bad reputation since the game would always have to be launched via a browser (additionally to requiring the Origin client) but that issue is game-specific so Origin got a lot worse rep than it should have.
This doesn't bother me much - I'm not a military shooter person :) The Origin exclusive I'm interested in is Dragon Age 2.

Damn... thanks though.

Though there are some steam games that will work without the steam client after installation now, like Half-Life 2.

yup those who are drm free, but this is not the case sadly it have a very intrusive drm system called SECUROM :(
Good title. I only miss Dead Space 2, now (I already own this from HB).
dead space 2 was good not as good as the first one but still very good, the third one was awfully bad, just a call of duty wanna be

You have joined the dark side :)). I made my Origin account for DA:O and had this from humblebundle also... now it seems I have an extra key... for when the price goes back...

Nope. Dead Space works without Origin, once you've installed it .

But you've installed it. Btw, there was also a Fifa 2012 giveaway on some mexican site. But that one still requires to run origin in the background. Luckily offline mode works...

But I uninstalled it afterwards...
I'll hijack this thread to ask a question of how do you like the game?
I finally started with it (i had it a long time before the giveaway) and i think the game tries so hard to be tense it's just not scary at all + the story seems nonexistent, at least up to chapter 5, i haven't got past that yet.
I got Dead Space 3 for free. EA gave it to me as an apology for Sim City.

Not entirely free I guess, I did pay in mass amounts of buyers remorse. XD

Dead Space is not scary at all. It does create a good tense atmosphere, but that is about it. The story is told by video segments and logbooks that you find. There are no real cinematics except for the ending and Issac never says a word.(truthfully other than the very beginning and the ending he is more or less faceless). I think he is meant to be the typical mute character to further immersion.

I enjoyed it just for the gameplay myself. The story is there, but it is a lot of reading and calls from the few npcs in the game. It is serviceable for what it is and was very enjoyable for me.
Grabbed it, but when I saw securom it was a deal breaker fro me.

Possibly a coincidence, but I don't think so. Origin is deciding to eliminate physical game sales starting next week. So in the meantime, they're offering Dead Space for free as part of setting up an account with Origin, which starting next week will be the only way to purchase their games. Hmmmm... Very sneaky.
