I'm currently in the Jungle, using a 'Magic Wand' mace and police baton, with a 'Scorching' baseball bat as back-up. I mostly save my guns for use against humans and Suiciders.

F1ach: do it before completing the UG quest as the house closes then.
They changed that in a patch a while back - that house remains accessible after you complete the 'Uninvited Guests' quest in the current version of the game.

Runehamster: I found that out by accident! Kind of a facepalm moment. Now I've got my revolver handy at all times for shooting propane tanks and the like :D
avatar
Rohan15: Yup. Also, try to stick to around only 3 or 4 weapons. I always have 2 shock machete, a mace/bat, and a pistol. This way you can sell shit you find until you get your 'mule' NPC at safe houses.
Currently I have three knives for throwing, a firearm, a dependable wrench, a shock machete, around 15 each of deo-bombs and molotovs, and a handful of Bleed Bombs (izzat right?). I would carry fewer weapons, but when things go horribly wrong and I can't get to my knives again, I need at least two melee weapons, so I feel like that's the bare minimum at the moment. I took all the inventory upgrade slots, though, so I'm still rolling around with loads of cash. (And I found the mule NPC :D )

LiquidOxygen80: Explosive knives FTW. Seriously, I'd be sticking multiples into Thugs, Juggies, fat guys in the sewers.
Is that the fury skill? I haven't put any points into that yet. I guess I should - I just hit the city, and it would have been useful against infected.

F1ach: You can detonate tanks with any thrown weapon, you probably knew that, but jic you didnt :)
Thanks! I did, but it doesn't seem to boomerang back most of the time when I do that, so I've just tossed away something I badly need. I try to expend bullets for that now :D

It took me quite a while to figure out how to take down the Rams without using explosives or fire. It's easy once you know how though.

Maybe we should get some coop Dead Island games going?

I'm on the PS3. If you can go cross-platform, or anyone else has the PS3 version, I'm game! :D
Yeah that boomerang can be a bit of a con job, you need to get all the way to the bottom of the tree for only 50% return rate, then you need to go rooting through the corpses if it doesnt proc and hopefully the game terrain hasn't swallowed the weapon. He's pretty cool to play when everything works though :)

In retrospect, he was not the best choice for a starting character. He is fun to play, though!
Do you guys play with level scaling on or off?

FraterPerdurabo: Do you guys play with level scaling on or off?
Apparently I play with it on. I am stuck in an endless loop of never becoming stronger than my enemies, and the only enemies I find really threatening are large masses of infected.

I think I'm afraid to turn that off. I might get my head eaten. How would one turn it off if one wanted?

It's there in the options. It's on by default and I haven't turned it off either, was wondering whether anyone here has?

I think that's for multiplayer. I think the game scales for everyone in singleplayer, and if you leave that checked, the game will still scale enemies to YOUR level even if your buddies are much lower. Probably affects the host only. I'm not sure how it would decide what level range to use if you unchecked it.

Hm you might be right... I'd like to try it out now but realised that the bastard won't run unless I disable my 2nd screen. I thought they had fixed that?!

Lol. I didn't even know you COULD. XD

First I've heard of it too. I always thought the levelling was totally pointless because of that. I guess I'll see how it plays with the scaling off.

If nothing else it's a pretty good reason to replay it, right?
