This game seems, like L4D/L4D2, to set up situations where stupid mistakes lead to hilariously improbable solutions or even more amusing failures. Anyone got anything to share?

My favorite so far - I'm playing as Roger, and have amassed a small collection of bladed weapons. I encountered my second Thug out in the open (I blew up the first one I found) and proceeded to backpedal, tossing knives like there was no tomorrow. It wasn't until I tossed my cleaver (my best weapon, currently) that I realized I was down to fists, and that I was now being chased by an undead trophy case bristling with weaponry. I started to run away, and realized I had left my entire inventory of weapons in a monster that did NOT seem inclined to return them. I decided to Chuck Norris the zombie, but when I kicked the Thug he backhanded me so hard I nearly died.

I did end up defeating him by throwing a baseball bat at him over and over, and dashing past him to pick it up again. Also, smacking him with a paddle I found nearby.

My dumbest fail so far? Throwing my fully upgraded Nailbat at a thug instead of one of my expendable knives. Ended up having to fight a walker for it, kicking him frantically, panicking because the Thug was SO CLOSE.
I used to do that throwing strategy as well - it sucks.

With a little practice you should get the timing right. Also, use the dodge move. Basically, run up to them and attack their arms. With a bladed weapon you can cut them off rather quickly and with a blunt you simply crack the bones (the animation is awesome). Makes Thugs significantly easier and the game more enjoyable.
Using Sam B I went into Fury mode and punched a bunch of zombies out finished off the thug as timer was about to expire and then time seemed to expand and in slow-mo I see myself punch a... yep, suicider. FUUUUUUCK!

Actually, since then I have learned to play a bit better. I am currently using molotovs or deodobombs for groups/thugs, a flaming baseball bat ( :D ) for my melee weapon, and a small bandolier of fully upgraded throwing knives. I toss a knife or two, kick them so they stagger back, yank the knives from their chests, and either stab them or toss them again. It's actually a "Cheapass Build" because my repair costs are minimal - often I can kill a zombie without using any weapon dura at all.

Oh gosh yes. I'm glad I played L4D2 with the AI, 'cause I used to do that ALL THE TIME. That, and accidentally toss bile at my teammates >.>

The characters are Logan, Purna, Xian Mei, and Sam B. Who's Roger?

Jump in the directions of left or right.
I have no problem throwing crap at them as Xian since I am fast enough to pull them out of the zombies.

Thanks so much! ...I don't know why THEY couldn't have told me that -.-

It's not even in the manual.

I got my first firearm, and I just got the mission to go get a truck from the hospital. I'm a bit concerned, it's my first "very hard" mission.

Oh, and guns seem useless. Inaccurate, limited ammo, and low damage.

Which possibly makes Purna the worst character to use, except for her Fury mode. I have a level 49 Purna and I end up using melee alot more than guns. Even Legendary(yellow) guns don't seem to do as much dmg as a Level 3 Purple Shock Katana.
I love Purna and Xian, I think that Logan has a sucky skilltree personally.

Anyway, best weapon for him is the mindblowing knife, to make the knife (use it as a thrown weapon for insta kill regular zombies) iirc you :

.Get the purple skull in the sewer in the canal in front of the church in Moresby, bring it to the house that has the uninvited guests quest (east Moresby), but do it before completing the UG quest as the house closes then.

Runehamster: snippity
It is told to you later on via tutorial extras. Guns are weak at chapter 5, but are great for knockdowns and environmental kills.

I found that out by accident! Kind of a facepalm moment. Now I've got my revolver handy at all times for shooting propane tanks and the like :D

Yup. Also, try to stick to around only 3 or 4 weapons. I always have 2 shock machete, a mace/bat, and a pistol. This way you can sell shit you find until you get your 'mule' NPC at safe houses.
You can detonate tanks with any thrown weapon, you probably knew that, but jic you didnt :)
Explosive knives FTW. Seriously, I'd be sticking multiples into Thugs, Juggies, fat guys in the sewers.

Also, I never had problems with firearms being too UP, but then I always modified them with DoT stuff, so they'd be a lot more useful in that fashion. Also, aiming plays a major role with them. Headshots, man, headshots. Maybe not as useful as jump kick + curb stomp when they go down combos, but still.

Also, firearms are great for clearing out an escape route from a rooftop or elevated platform when you have a crapload of shrieking infected after you. (Katana's still pretty awesome, I have to say, though.)
