bansama: So for those playing it, is this worth playing if you didn't really get into the first game but liked the premise?
As Mike says, "same ol same ol", on saying that, you start at ~15. so you can customise your character with 15 skill points, so you aren't starting totally noob, which some may find attractive.

But, if you like the premise, I would be surprised if you didnt like the first game, I cant think of another zombie apocalypse game like it.....War Z or whatever the Arma thing was called, maybe, but that was seriously crap.

I havent encountered any SP bugs, but I believe there are Co-Op bugs still....dunno what they are though as I havent tried it.

supachoups: There are actual modding tools for Riptide ? That could be interesting!
avatar
F1ach: Well the original had lots of mods, so it stands to reason that DI:R will too.
Hit points, skills, all kinds of values were modifiable but they weren't any actual tools to create a new map or heavily modifying the game (SDK), were they ?

I dont know about that, the mods I used were day/night cycles, headlights on cars working and a storm mod. I cant remember new maps, but jesus the beach at night with just a flashlight was like a totally new a very fecking scary game :)
I see. It looks fun but still the same game. :)

Anyway, the Riptide competition rules indicate there isn't any SDK currently available. Too bad.

"With no SDK or tools this is wildwest of modding at its finest. "

Other than co-op over steam just plain not working and an unlimited inventory space exploit via trading it seems fine. I've been playing LAN co-op over Tunngle almost 100% of the time. We haven't really ran into any issues at all, other than some very strange (and hilarious) physics when a zombie is hit with a charge attack.
Eventually stopped dicking around and progressed the story a wee bit, "Find a Boat".

Initially I was a bit annoyed with the boats until I discovered that using "A" is pretty awesome :)

Just cruising around the swamp, there seems to be a fair few "dungeons" for want of a better word, where you can dock your boat and go in to explore and kill stuff, got a nice Venom Mod in a cave there, also found the Santa Maria (name?) Mission, I think that was used in a gameplay trailer for the hub defence, it looked like a likely spot for it anyway.

I think the game seems a bit more difficult than the last one, also I'm at Lv 29, theres not really any more skills I'm too bothered with (Wunderwaffe when i get access to guns is all) and I still havent left the first area and have maybe 3 skill points banked for use on Wunderwaffe.

Yup the Mission is eventually a hub with a defense sequence. It was great fun and got a little crazy. The addition of the dead zone dungeons is awesome for the people that like to explore. I just got to Henderson last night and one of the first dead zones I came across was awesome fun, a whole basement just packed with zombies and some bosses thrown in, and a ton of rare parts and chests to make it worth the effort. It does seem a little more difficult, some of the new bosses are nuts, drowners hit crazy hard if you give them the chance, and old school bosses like thugs take a more massive beating than in the first game.
Gutted! My Dead Island Riptide special edition on retail disc arrived today. Installer came up, entered my activation key, and it said Dark Souls Retail 3P has been activated (checking my Steam library I now have Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition). As such, the installer just says it cannot continue. :( Where is my game?!

There are at least some others having this problem too:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3113826

So, I've now sent off an email to Deep Silver support, an email to GAME.co.uk customer services, and a support request to Steam Support. Hopefully one of them will be able to help. But yes, clearly another Deep Silver release mess. :'(

Oh wow that is messed up. I hope they get you sorted quickly. I'd be raging pretty hard after buying a special edition and having that happen.

That's not even the same publisher so I imagine this would be an error on Steam's end.

No idea. But I've sent out contact to all three parties, Steam, GAME and Deep Silver. All I know is that when I got home from work and saw it had arrived I was happy, but now I'm sad.

Don't even know how I'll get the game to install from the disc now as entering the key again just comes up saying it is a duplicate key (as I've already registered it) so it won't even try to progress to copy files from the DVD.

Oh, and one of the reasons I went with retail disc is that my internet is slow (I get about 2.8mbit) so it would be quicker to install from disc rather than download the whole game.

Looks like they'll be updating the following thread when they come up with a solution.

Ooh, thanks for that link. +1

I've seen Professor Pew on Steam forums before, when there were questions asked about the pre-order Ripper DLC for those who'd bought the original game and the DLC packs before the GOTY edition was released, as the only way to get it at that time was to purchase the whole GOTY edition which was crazy. He never came up with a solution, but a couple months later the Ripper DLC showed up for something like 50p if I remember rightly.
I hope my keys for the Survivor Pack and Fashion Victim DLCs aren't incorrect too.

Survivor pack is a bit of a con I think.

1. You get the shop anyway and its crap.
2. I think I used the BBQ once out of curiosity.
3. The XP boost has me at lv 30 still in the first area with no skills left to buy.
