korell: Well, in answer to your original question, Fashion Victim DLC is just for co-op as you don't see yourself in game other than your hands out in front of you.
avatar
F4LL0UT: Actually you DO see your body when looking down and also during certain moves. I can't tell whether you can see the changes to your own skin because in case of my character (John) the DLC skin is ridiculously similar to the original one. I presume that you DO see the differences when playing with some of the other characters, though.

avatar
korell: Not seen a cutscene since I chose the survivor skin, but as they are pre-rendered movies they won't reflect the outfit you are wearing.
avatar
F4LL0UT: Actually pretty much all of them are real-time with the intro being the only exception I have seen so far. The cutscenes still seem to always use the original skin, though.
Yeah, in hindsight, you do see other bits of yourself, such as when you stomp a zombie's head, but it is still very little. If the game had a 3rd person mode (without using mods or cheats or whatever) then it might be worth it, but for how it actually is, I wouldn't recommend buying the Fashion Victim DLC.

As for the cutscenes, by pre-rendered I mean that they are not live in-engine. They may have been created within the engine but they are recorded in some method and not using live data from the current status of the game in play. Here is a YouTube video showing some of them (obviously, don't view it if you don't want spoilers, but this video starts at the beginning of the game so you are probably okay to watch some of it at least).

F1ach: So, when not playing, I like to watch these two UK TV zombie shows.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Flesh_(TV_series)

The dead have arisen as zombies, but now have been "cured", this series is about re-integrating them into society.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Set

This is where a zombie outbreak occurs in britain and the only survivors are the contestants in The Big Brother House. I dont know which is more scary, the zombies or the fact that the only surviving gene pool consists of Big Brother contestants, either way the human race is screwed.

Really liking them alot.
Saw Dead Set when it was released and really enjoyed it. The Big Brother contestants weren't the only survivors, but the show did focus on them.

As for In The Flesh, I've only seen the first of the three episodes due to BBC3 messing about with their schedules leading to me missing the other two, but they are supposed to be on the BBC iPlayer website, so I might get to see the rest of it at some point.

I just started watching The Walking Dead series 3. First episode was brilliant, so I hope the rest continues as such.

Only the intro is pre-rendered (of all the cutscenes I have seen so far). All other ones are rendered in real-time. If you don't believe me just turn down all the details in the game's options and you will see the difference.

Do they put some filter over the top of the cutscene image then? Only they don't appear crisp like the live in-game engine graphics.
Oh, don't know if you guys know about this (though I'd imagine most Dead Island players who've had issues with the game do), but the Dead Island Riptide Helper program really helps this game. The options I'm using in the helper are:

Fix micro-stuttering (prevent keystroke repetiton)
Disable event logging
Kill the "Berkelium" background process
Increase NPC voice volume
Launch via Steam

These make movement keys give smoother movement, prevent the game from creating those large event log files (which can fix long load times if you are affected by that, but also saves drive space), disables the Facebook linking process and makes NPC speech easier to hear (as Riptide voices seem quieter than the original game). The helper also uses the Steam link to launch the game, so I've set the -nologos flag on the launch options to prevent the intro videos for Deep Silver and Techland from playing.

There are other options, such as various forms as anti-aliasing, and options that attempt to fix black screen crashes should you be affected by them.

Well, I guess they do use some Depth of Field, maybe also some noise, I haven't paid so much attention to the details but they are definitely rendered in real time. They certainly don't have the compression artifacts of the intro.

Huh, I should probably tell my buddy about this. I'm playing with an X360 controller (the game just HAS to be played with analogue melee controls) so I can't complain about the controls but my friend is playing with keyboard + mouse and has already complained but input issues. Thanks for the tip.

While I have no problems with anything like you mention, In the cutscenes...yeah it looks really crap, as if you are viewing them through a screen door or something, really odd looking.
Just been through the tunnels, this game just keeps getting better ! :)
We finished it yesterday, seems we were really unlucky with the drops as we didn't find a single named orange by the end.

Zoey, the one who sells blades had absolutely horrible offerings throughout most of the game as well, GF had to do with what we found for most of it. And I only got to play with the better impacts mods until shortly before the end because we just did *not* get enough Suicider meat, it was insane. We farmed a whole bunch of them at some point just to get them, I'm talking 40+ or something to get 3 meat.

Still, we had fun with it, that's the most important thing I guess :)

That reminds me, I'm Lv 50 and for the last quite a few levels, I'm, noticing that the quality (DPS) of weapons seems to be unchanging, so, I figured they would upgrade after a chapter change, so after the tunnels I went and checked, but they were still crap compared to my found stuff.
I have 3 levels in lockpick and all I have found is trash apart from an orange cane knife from a LONG time back.

Anyway, i'm playing Purna, have a blue shotty with the Pride mod, that plus all her skills maxed, and limitless ammo is like pressing an I win button.

So, I have just done Wayne after the tunnel, how much longer 'til the end do you think, looking to try the new guy out after this, so far i've played about 20-ish hours.
Kessler Query SPOILER!

I collected a sample for him, went back to the lab, but he has nothing to say to me.
He spoke by radio after the tunnels and after the fury incident at the ferry, but the quest seems to have stopped. I think I was supposed to get golf club not that it matters.
That quest has several things you need to collect in the tunnels, did you do them all or just the one? (we didn't realize we needed to do more till we left the tunnels already, had to go back)

I'm afraid I'm not able to quantify how much longer it would take to finish, I'm not even sure how long it took us to do that part (after the tunnels).

The shops only seem to change after a certain amount of time spent in game this time round which was pretty boring. On top of that there were a few weapons in each of them that seemed to stay frozen just as they were when we saw them the first time (or first time upgraded to), they even stayed at the same (far too low) level. Of the remainer, my blunt salesman had a bunch of fixed weapons that *did* level up with me but just were there or not there every now and then if the shop changed, but if they were there it was always the same quality. (always the same purple sledgehammer for instance instead of an orange one sometimes, always an orange golf club etc etc.) And then you had 1-3 items that seemed to change randomly but tended to be low quality most of the time. Heck the GF's shop was horrible, one purple blade that stayed too low level, a thrown, knuckles and 2 crappy quality blades. And this was the level 3 blades shop for crying out loud. I think she had one instance of seeing an orange and thank god it was a katana which she absolutely adores so she just bought 4 of those right away.

Ah, OK, I only got one sample, maybe I'll just stall with Purna and play the new guy to the tunnel and search more carefully, cheers Pheace :)

OK, thats good to know, I'll be heading in as John later, so at least I'll know what I'm looking for now, cheers and have some rep :)

John is pretty cool to play, hardly ever used a medikit on him, you kinda go around like a badass just looking for a fight, just to watch his health go up lol :)
