not a surprise....

"Darkspore will require a persistent internet connection, an EA account and serial registration in order to play the game"

Another game to add to my will not play list....
Link please?
And to think I was excited for this game....
Huh, guess I won't be getting it after all.
I was going to join the beta too. It's a shame, Maxis has such creative talent and they're losing fans over this kind of thing.
Sorry, i could be wrong... seen it on wikipeda at the bottem.. I hope i'm wrong looks like a fun game.

If you're going to link a sourced wikipedia claim, you might as well link the source of it: I linked the wrong reference, here is the correct one: http://www.destructoid.com/darkspore-requires-constant-internet-connection-on-pc-196271.phtml

My link was wrong, re-read the destructoid link. I give EA points for spinning it pretty well, but the fact remains, there's no way to opt-out of this multiplayer/PVP experience, which bones people who don't want it.

Yeah, they can sugar coat it all they want... still the same thing... =)

I guess my main beef with this.. if i have 4 friends over to LAN party.. why do we all need internet connections and lag to play a game when we are all in the same room?

LAN parties are still awesome, I agree. But if you don't have ripping cable it's practically impossible to play one of these always connected games with your buddies.
When I played the beta it basically functioned as an MMO, so this does not surprise me.

Also when I played the beta I said to myself "wow I don't want to play this ever again" so really it's no big deal.

That's exactly the same silly excuse than the one they used for C&C4. It was phony then it's still phony today.

Good thing I don't care at all about Darkspore.

It was more phony in CnC4 because that game had a singleplayer component a lot of people might get the game for alone. Darkspore, at least going by the beta, is not really a singleplayer game. It had no real story or quest design, it was all about teaming up with other players and using your creations to click on enemies. The menu is basically a lobby... it even has an MMO style chat window on the bottom left that is there all the time, playing with others or not.

There was a time when games like that were ideal on LANs with friends...
