xa_chan: Sorry, I had to play most of Darksiders 1 on keyboard and mouse and, while it was somewhat playable, I had to give up at the giant spider boss, because there was no way i could be fast enough on the keyboard...
avatar
etna87: Hm, I played past that point with mouse and keyboard, until somewhere in that big tower (although the spider was the first occasion where I actually used potions, I think). Should complete the game at some point. I don't really understand why people think mouse and keyboard are inadequate - the only thing that annoys me are somewhat clunky control schemes and combos.
It's just that -for me at least- it feels awkward. Darksiders is a fast-paced action game and thus, sometimes, I'm too slow with the keyboard
I really wanted to buy the first one, but I can't justify spending it on a game that is so linear and has no replay value at least for me anyway.

DS2 looks nice and fun too, but again, can't justify spending $50-$60 for a game that has no or little replay value.

Well, I bought Darksiders 1 on a Steamsale (don't remember if it was summer or Christmas) for something like maybe 10$. At that price, i don't care about replayability, it's a bargain!

Well at that price, I would definitely get it. ^_^ Since DS2 is coming out, they might have that sale on again. I'll keep that in mind. ^_^
You can find Darksiders 1 anywhere for 5$ when there is a THQ sale. It has already been discounted lots of times. Also, it is a Steamworks title without any region-lock so you can buy it from any store you want and then activate it on Steam.

It is a great game, I recommend buying it for that price if you are even remotely interested.

xa_chan: I disagree. I don't know why I should be forced on one brand or another. I'm perfectly satisfied with my Logitech, I don't know why I should buy another product to play a game I want to play.
Like I already wrote, I'm not saying it's "right" I'm saying it's true. You can either whine and say it's not fair, which might well be true but gets you nowhere, or you could buy the gamepad every single PC game is made for now.
I don't know, Initially I was interested by it but the firsts previews from journalists having played the game where pretty negative.

But then it might be because the version they played was an early unfinished one and THQ will manage to correct the issues with the final version. But I will for sure wait for more "positive" reviews before deciding if the game is worth it or not.

Its not released until august, so that must have been a very early build.

I know, and that's also what the testers said, but still THQ don't have that much time to correct it, let's hope they do.

orcishgamer: Looks fucking awesome. I'll be playing it on its true home... XBox 360!

SimonG: I need to remember this post when the next console vs PC discussion arises ... ;-P
Sure thing, but I'm usually in there tweaking the PC elitists' noses already;)
Frankly, I think the whole thing looks a bit silly. I think it's the art style, every character has ridiculous accouterments. Comparing it to other comic styles (it is Joe Mad), it's not as intimidating as Spawn, as gritty as Kick-Ass nor as unique as early Judge Dredd, and yet it seems to be reaching for all of those adjectives simultaneously. In a way, the art-style kind of follows the straining gameplay.

As for that gameplay, it needs to be a radical change to remain interesting. The "me too" mish-mosh of other games' styles in the first Darksiders simply won't cut it for two straight titles.

I'm just flabbergasted by how stoked people are for this game. I really don't see it myself.

We don't care about getting the same (or same-ish) story, but a lot of us were really interested in the world that was presented. Given the opportunity to peel back more layers and see more of said world is the excitement, at least for me, and I suspect for many others.

The story is a prequel so I suspect we'll see what exactly transpired in the 100 years that War was locked away.

Its the mish mash of styles that actually appeals to me, its like playing a zelda game or a soul reaver game, not a heck of alot of games like that around nowadays.

AFAIK its not a prequel, I think it runs through the same timeline as DS1.

Yeah. Zelda with a mature plot and some gameplay advances is a hell of a lot more than Nintendo is giving us.

If you watch the developer diaries they call it a prequel (though I suppose what prequel means to them is slightly open to interpretation), though the ending of it may be around the same time War does his thing, I've watched most of the pre-release promotional stuff and I'm fairly certain it's both a prequel and much of it happens away from "Earth".

Yeah, War is pretty much a really rugged Link with a personality to match Kratos.
