Same with the infamous "No Russian". If IW had actually set things up for that and given it meaning, I doubt anyone would really have come down on it. But instead, they just tacked it on and made it a blatant attempt for "edginess".

Aliasalpha: Wha? Graphic? Were we playing the same game? What I saw was a character driven emotionally valid, story progressing love scene (where you saw sideboob at MOST) that had a meaningful impact on the closing moments of the game. Kind of the exact opposite of "No Russian"
Now if you want digital nudity, you can't go by GTA4: The Lost & Damned

We talking about the same sex scene? It was story progressing, sure. And it would have been emotionally valid if it had any lead-up other than a montage of cut content :P
That being said, I mostly meant "graphic" in that you actually saw the horizontal mambo, rather than just a lamp. Do I consider it important to the story: Yeah. But I also can see how that (combined with the fact that almost every single girl in that game was in Playboy...) could send the wrong message.

That's America for you. The human form may have been crafted by Teh Lawd and it may have been that evil talking snake that made Adam and Eve ashamed of their bodies, but nonetheless, nudity must be stamped out at all costs. Violence is fine as Teh Lawd indulges in no end of that itself.

Oh, because your MPs would be totally fine with it? Wouldn't some cleric object to the content of the game, prompting a demand by your spineless politicians to censor the game in the name of cultural sensitivity?
To claim that foolish censorship is a national phenomenon is foolish in itself.

Syme: Most political rants in the US about games are about violence. I'm not sure where you're getting your misinformation. The subject of sex may come up more frequently if the industry continues to handle it with all the grace and maturity of an adolescent deciding to use all the curse words he knows at the family reunion, but right now it doesn't come up much. You might have a case if you directed your comment at the ratings board.

Bio2hazard: My information mostly comes from video game oriented blogs such as Kotaku, RPS etc.
I know there are some who are against violence in video games, jack thompson comes to mind, but I read much more complaints about sex in games than I do about violence in games. The craze about the hot coffee mod for example was irrationally high for instance.
Either way, I believe that my point still stands firmly, regardless of what you say.
I've seen adult themes involving suicide, murder and even torture in T-rated things, but I have never come across a single nipple in any game rated below M.
Sure it is a matter of opinion and I agree that opinions vary. My opinion on it is that I would rather have my kid see tits over torture, but perhaps that is just me.

Kotaku and RPS get more hits with stories about nudity, so I'm sure your sources give you the impression you have. I get my information living here and being pandered to by the politicians every two to four years. I also know that living here makes it unlikely that anyone will think I know what America is really like.
The ratings on games do nothing to support your contention, by the way. The board is independent of the government.

You know what? I had fun with the demo, and though others may hate it, I enjoyed myself, so I'm interested in buying the full thing.

I'd like to see a comparison between the first 1/3 of Dante's Comedy (widely known as the Divine Comedy) and the game. Inferno had little to do with combat and violence and much to do with politics and religion.

I can't remember there being a time when any religious figurehead successfully demanded a game be banned or censored. Yes, our politicians are very spineless, but while they're keen to censor things IRL, entertainment hasn't been affected by that.
Game censorship in this country is purely concerned with violence. More to the point, the nature and tone of the violence. Some titles may be rated for sexual content, but never modified or cut, no. The only problems are with the BBFC and only with one title. The BBFC are on their way out now anyway.
There is very, very little censorship here beyond ratings. We don't bleep out swear words on TV either for that matter. When was the last time you even heard a swear word on TV? As long as it's on at a suitable hour here, that's as far as it goes.
EDIT: It's also worth pointing out that the reason our politicians are spineless is because they're wrong. They know they're wrong, and they're not about to stop being wrong any time soon. So their solution is to try and appease people with bullshit concessions to avoid being faced with an increasingly angry populace that is rightfully out for their blood. It's not because of some puritanical national stigmata, but rather the over apologetic result of their own doings.

Yeah, I know that it is molesting the original fiction and all that. However, in this case, the game is fun, so I could care less of how faithful it is to Dante Algheri's text. Though I would find it funny if the last boss in the game was Brutus.

Navagon: When was the last time you even heard a swear word on TV? As long as it's on at a suitable hour here, that's as far as it goes.

Our content limitations are only forced on the open airwaves, and only during certain hours of the day. Cable stations are only limited by the demands of their advertisers (with the exceptions of premium cable channels, which will show pornography if they wish it).
