R.I.P. Dave Arneson [Apr 09, 2009, 08:47 am ET]
Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Dave Arneson passed away at the age of 61 shortly after 11:00 pm CDT on Tuesday, April 7th, just 13 months after the death of Gary Gygax. Arneson suffered a stroke in 2002, but the cause of death is not mentioned in the announcement
Both the creators are now presumably burning (or partying) in hell for creating so satanic a game. D&D is truly an orphan now
Saw that yesterday. Very sad indeed.
Never got a chance to play the PnP D&D sadly.
We have been losing a lot of people the last year who had a large influence on film and gaming. But I don't feel the current crowd will be remembered for as large an impact.
Certainly none that will be remembered as Gygax and Arneson should be. Those two guys created something that was huge part of my childhood and I for one am very saddened by their loss.
To respect the creation of these 2 guys, I have to go play a PnP RPG soon
R.I.P Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson
we should try & run a forum based game of D&D

Only if it's 3.5 rules.

I asked this a while back, and was told to go onto the GameFAQ boards. I was asking because I would be willing to run such an adventure - but I was met with a rebuttal, so I forgot about it.
It is another sad day for D&D, but the seeds they planted are happily growing strong with Wizards of the Coast. Role play will never die, in fact it will always go from strength to strength as it the one gaming environment which is unbound by technological restrictions. I grew up playing D&D and have been on and off for years. Right from the classic mistake of going through the Monster Manuel alphabetically (so the party met a dragon in only the 10th room or something). To now a days, when I have DM'ed games which have area music, environmental sound and a world to rival even the most complicated RPG video games.
Gygax and Arneson have given me thousands of hours of entertainment, and for that I thank them deeply, along with the people dedicated to keeping the hobby alive.

Eldritch Blast for you, whelp!!!!!!!
I've always wanted to play D&D, but no one else around me wants to. Everyone's either caught up with Street Fighter IV, Killzone 2, some hawt PS3 game or DOTA :(

DOTA? All my friends play that, it sucks. I'll probably whoop their asses in Demigod...
Anyway, D&D really was one of those games you would be ashamed of playing. Do you really want people to know what you do in the basement?

Ahh well thats a know the audience error, you might as well been asking for an unbiased opinion on fallout 3 at the NMA forums or asking for anything at all at 4chan
If you do want to run one here (preferrably starting from level 1), you've got at least one player

Sweet, I'll bare that in mind. I can do low to high fantasy or post apocalyptic. I'm not doing WoD or anything with Vampires, Killer Robots, Ninjas or Zombies in... or a John Woo inspired game. Those bitches have turned more tricks than a whore on a submarine.
Any takers or themes you'd like?
