It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I was keeping Firefox 3.6 installed because I like how it looks and it has extensions which were not compatible with newer versions. Now it goes and updates itself to version 8 without me even giving it permission! What the fuck????
Some browsers just want to watch the world burn.

I bet you could find the old working version you had on the interwebs.

This is pretty much why you aren't supposed to run with administrator privileges.
That's weird, I didn't even get a notice that it was available, I read about an extension which mentioned 8.0, and had to update manually. I can't find any settings about auto-update though.
Btw does anyone else think Firefox's version-tree is moving a little fast?
Or go to settings and disable auto-update.

kalirion: anip
I have that older version also but I have update reminder turned off - so nothing that bad so far happened for me. I wonder if your report is some bug or not.

A little? It's ridiculous.

We've gone from FF3.5 to FF8 in less than 11 months.

FF4 2011/03/22
FF5 2011/06/21
FF6 2011/09/06
FF7 2011/09/27
FF8 2011/11/08

I guess they'll stop when they reach the number 12.
Yeah super fast. That's why i change to Comodo Dragon.
I have auto update turned on because of the minor security patches they always deliver - but that was always within the major version (so 3.6.20 to 3.6.21 to 3.6.24 etc). Last couple times it explicitly told me "we recommend that you actually update to the newest newest version", but that has always been for me to decide. Now I start it up, and it installs 8.0....
Beta of 9 and 10 (Aurora) are already out. Latest infos I've got that they want to release version 9 in six weeks.

Yeah, but it's just a number isn't it?
Whether they call it V8 or V4.4 doesn't REALLY matter that much - it's just marketing - right?

Are they still applying security fixes to 3.6? If not, that may explain the different tactic.
What if they screwed up the code so much that the version number has to be an integer or the internets implode?
